Marino looking more and more like the Pillsbury-doughgirl. :)
Was down 1-3 in the 1st set tie-break, fought back to 5-3 and then lost it 6-8. :(

I can't stand that stuff, and while you see it in a few WTA players, Swiatek is the absolute worst for it. Her opponent hits a good shot, and she acts like the entire planet has conspired against her to make her lose a point unfairly. Is she really so oblivious to the concept that her opponents are professional players and can, on occasion, hit a winner against her? WTF? So childish and bad.

Swiatek has one of the worst, most inflated senses of entitlement I've seen on the women's side. Then again, her camp and her zealous fans have made her believe she's a GOAT in the making, so that has something to do with her bad behavior, cheating, etc.

I've lightened up in my Potato shares recently. I'm still a fan of hers, but
she has been disappointing me more and more, so I only take her matches now with a grain of salt. :)
She has tremendous raw talent but often doesn't know how to channel it intelligently.
Like say ... tonight. :(

Watching this old as dinosaur lady laboring around is borderline elder abuse. Difference is she’s doing it to herself. This is not tennis.

And the NY crowd is just classless.

Garcia's ranking is going to crash worse than the stock market in the great depression after this tournament
Unfortunately not. She still has all those points from the WTA Finals that she won.

Live rankings have her dropping just 3 spots to #10. Would think a few more may overtake her but she shouldn't drop anything lower than about #13 which is just crazy.

For the love of god, someone throw in the towel.

Clearly something wrong with Donna. Started out strong, then her faced turned really red and she quit moving. Maybe just not in shape for August weather.
Could be.
I joined the match in the second and stopped watching in the middle of the set as Vickery tied things up.
I didn't like the way Vekic was playing at that point.
Vickery's body language at the start of the second set was saying "I surrender!".

But a few loose points here and there and Vekic let her back into the match.
Could be the humidity or other things. But the fact is that Vekic should beat Vickery on paper nine times out of ten.
Oh well.

I really just don't understand what's happened to Krejcikova :(

She's been nothing but hopeless since that stunning run to the Dubai title in February where she beat #8 Kasatkina, #15 Kvitova, #2 Sabalenka, #3 Pegula and #1 Swiatek in 5 consecutive matches to win.

That run was one of the rarest things in tennis where a player defeated the top 3 ranked players in the world in the same tournament.

Down a set and break to Bronzetti.

I absolutely floored that Krejcikova can’t win a match. Come on girl.

OTOH, so glad Strykova is quickly ousted. Drama queen has no audience.

Fernandez and Raducanu will head into the 2024 US Open having won just 1 match at the tournament since their 2021 final (a win for Leylah against the mighty Oceane Dodin).
Why does Raducanu keep getting lumped in with Fernandez's failings? She's played one US Open since 2021 and has been mired by injuries over the past 18 months.

I'm far more inclined to write Fernandez off than I am Raducanu at this point given the former has played enough matches over the last 18 months that she should be starting to stamp her authority on the tour, and yet is sitting almost exactly where she started 2 years ago in the rankings, having not made a tour SF at any level since early 2022.

Raducanu still hasn't had a fair crack at the whip i.e a sustained period of time on the tour where she's not been beset by some injury and has been allowed to develop.
