Med is indeed back to absolute peak. It is gonna be one hell of a fight. Medvedev is turbo charged and his confidence at an all time high, you could see it from his victory speech and interviews after beating Alcaraz.
If he is playing as good as people say he is then I think he has the advantage. He has full confidence in his game on this USO court likely under the roof. Since AO 21 he has pushed Djokovic to the limit in every match, nothing has been easy, it really feels like a Murray/Wawrinka style matchup where absolutely nothing comes easy for either guy in the match, every rally is a 20 shot grind, players very rarely make errors, every point is a battle.

Medvedev is a genuinely great hardcourter despite my dislike for him, I have respect for his game when in form. He has the younger legs and has definitely become battle tested. If his serve is back, watch out.

Only a fool would count out Djokovic from any match though and he will definitely not play as poorly as in 2021. Hope to watch a great match tomorrow.

So.. 50-50?

Objectively, Djokovic has that one extra gear which combines unreal defense with credible offense. He usually brings it once he is down in the match but in slam finals he will do that from the first ball given the opponent's playing style. He tried it in 2021 USO F but he could not execute it.

He brought it to perfection in 2021 AO F. And people will rightly say Djokovic blew Medvedev away there, but one small caveat.

Medvedev started the match listless, she'll shocked by the occasion and by Djokovic's play who started as good as he can. But soon enough Med broke back and had Djokovic gasping for breath.

It's another thing he threw the most stinker of a game to get broken again, and then lost his mind BUT for a period of 3-4 games he matched Djokovic's best and surpassed it.

There have been many more matches where he has done that for entire sets.

That's the thing. Medvedev along with Alcaraz is the only guy that can tackle Djokovic in that mode. Heck he can go toe to toe with Djokovic when Novak goes into his lockdown mode.

But, this is a bo5. Med can outplay Djokovic. But he has a knack of becoming unfocused either losing or winning. Djokovic has a knack for raising his level to sky high after playing like dirt within games

The first set is extremely important. Medvedev will need a cushion. And I wager if Medvedev can serve well he can take that set.

Don’t know enough to predict tbh. I’d make Med a slight favorite just off the basis of him beating Carlos which I didn’t expect.
A slam match vs Novak can NEVER be 50-50.
Doesn't matter if one is a fan or not, but Novak has won so many of these matches over almost every player imaginable.
Sure - he loses some. But he wins most of them. That is why he has 23 slams and could go several more.
He's beaten the best players in slams finals over 2 decades on ALL surfaces.

Novak Djokovic in slams is like the S&P 500 (Stock market index). It might be knocked down a little bit, but long term it always goes up.
Novak is the SOLID FAVORITE in the Slam Final. Yes, he could lose. But anyone who says it's 50-50 is deluding themself.

Don’t care who wins. Not the biggest fan of either. Would have loved to watch Carlos vs Djoko because their matches this season were so entertaining.
I can’t stand Medvedev and Djokovic has nothing to prove. No one will touch his record. He could retire tomorrow and he’s GOAT by every way we measure that stuff on here.

I just hope it goes 5 and the crowd has a blast. I want the crowd to win.

I watched Coco finally win. I am delighted.

Djokovic won his final major in Paris. He's done winning majors.
He's not taking 3 sets off this version of Medvedev on this surface.
Medvedev is peaking in the final and taking his second USO title.
Djokovic will do nothing against him.
Medvedev is going to kill the Djoker serve and finish him the way he finished Alcaraz.

A 36 year old man with a joke draw thinks he's going to grind out a win against a 27 year old peak level Medvedev who just smashed Alcaraz! :-D

Just read the official Djokovic vs Medvedev USO 2021 thread.
All the clowns on here claiming Djokovic will beat Medvedev are the same guys who predicted Djokovic to crush Medvedev 2 years ago :-D
Then they were full of excuses and trying to save face.
Let's be realistic. Djokovic has looked like complete crap this whole tournament. When you have to save 12 BPs against a joke like Taylor Fritz and have to come back from 2 sets down against a guy nobody ever heard of, that doesn't make you a sure bet to win anything.
Medvedev is taking the US Open title. Djokovic is nothing close to the necessary level to try to grind with Medvedev. This is a different level of challenge than what Alcaraz would've brought.
Djokovic is basically playing a younger, stronger version of himself in Medvedev who is better suited to the conditions of the US Open than Djokovic is. And Medvedev will have superior stamina than a 36 year old Djokovic. It will be a 7th silver platter for Djokovic tonight. Rightfully so since he's used to losing here.

I sort of lost interest post the Fed decline but Med was one of those players that still got my interest in Tennis on. A charismatic personality and an intriguing game.

I'm chuffed about his return this year. It was clear when he went undefeated for all those titles earlier this year. It's clearer now.

I hope he has the legs needed tonight.

The Alcaraz win made Medvedev even stronger for the final. The self belief, the swagger, the confidence...all the great stuff he showed at USO 2021 is finally back.
The Russian Predator aka Medator has returned!
USO title #2 incoming.
Anyone who thinks a 36 year old grandpa Djoker is gonna take 3 sets off Medvedev on the US Open surface is deluded.
Djokovic isn't beating Medvedev here.

That's the reality, isn't it? Djoker had a bunch of school kids and car wash workers to deal with, while Meddy had to redline like never before to get to the final.

Add to it that this is no ordinary 36 year old we are dealing with.

LOL medvedev didn't red line anything. He just played at the level that we all knew he was capable of playing at. You think he achieved the world #1 ranking and became the USO 2021 champion by accident? :-D
This has been one of the best runs Medvedev has ever shown in a major. He's been doing massive damage in his ROS and his break game is at peak Djokovic level right now.

The two guys that were having their way with Medvedev this season (Alcaraz and De Minaur) were crushed. Neither of them even belonged on the same court as Medvedev. It just further shows that when The Medator is in the zone, he's unstoppable.

Did you even watch the match? I didn't try to denigrate him by calling it redlining. He played to his potential which he often doesn't.

He himself called it a 12/10 performance and if that doesn't mean playing your absolute best, I don't know what is.

I was thinking about what I said as I lie here in bed. I said basically that I don’t care if Djokovic wins this or if he wins 5 more. There’s nothing that interesting or exciting about it to me anymore.

HOWEVER- I would love to see a calendar slam in my lifetime on either side. All four in one year.

Whoever wins Australia, ill be rooting for them. Djokovic and Serena were so close.
I do think a calendar slam is what will possibly actually take attention of DjokoGoat.
And Carlos can win on every surface. It’s something to dream on. No one ever dreamed for less.

This is my most favorite sport, afterall.

He had a chip on his shoulder after the last 2 humiliating and lopsided beatdowns he received at Wimbledon and Indian Wells this year.
But USO is Medvedev's best surface.

Djokovic has missed his chance. No calendar slam is happening. Even with a weak ass draw he's not going to achieve it.

The only question is if Med plays like he did against Alcaraz - far more agressive than usual - he has a small chance. Otherwise Djokovic wins in 3 or 4.

Hopefully he brings his A game

Both guys do well in indoor fish tank conditions. Rain looks to be heavy in New York today/tonight according to forecast. Temperatures seem to have dropped too and roof on then humidity will be blocked out. Both guys will be relived with that.

One thing I love about this final is it’s a big FU to the us open crowd and establishment. Love it really!

How is it an FU to the US Open establishment exactly? I mean I know what you're going for here but the US Open is not the US Government and they would have loved it if Djokovic could have played last year.

This thread is full of your posts about how Med will beat Novak. I have been following Med since NA swing 2019 . And I personally can't bring myself to feel that confident about it.

I hope to God you are right.

Why does the roof mean the humidity will be lessened, I thought Arthe Ashe became like a greenhouse with the roof on?

Roger Federer blames stunning U.S. Open upset on humidity, poor air circulation

“I do believe since the roof is on that there is no air circulation in the stadium,” added Federer. “I think just that makes it a totally different U.S. Open. Plus conditions maybe were playing slower this year on top of it. You have soaking wet pants, soaking wet everything.”

It’s probably the final they least wanted if I’m honest. Djokovic isn’t the that popular in America and neither is Meddy.

I’m the first to admit, Djoko is less popular in America compared to other countries. It’s probably grown overtime but it’s still there a bit.

Idk, they want the finals that will generate the most revenue, this is one of the top in that regard because they are two former champions with very recognizable names in the tennis world.

I think the air conditioning was on in semis. The players said the air conditioning made the humidity less bad. When the roof is fully shut it means the air con is on. When it was partly shut it made no odds the other day.

However, it shouldn’t be too bad anyway as the temperatures dropped from the early 30s to about 24 degrees. Apppear gto be light winds too so even outdoor conditions should be good for players too.

Djoker went from a -250 favorite earlier today to now a -225 favorite.
Med is at +187.
Djokovic is not a considerable favourite for the title.
Looking at the stats, he is not playing at grand slam winning potential.
He may raise his level but as usual at 36, the mental lapses become more frequent.
Seems he lost extended rallies to Ben Shelton too. Ben won the 9+ shot rallies.

Novak leads the H2H 9-5, but they are even on big stages: 2-1 in GS, 1-1 in WTF, 1-2 in Masters.

I see Novak as the favorite to win. He is determined to win this title, as he was at AO this year. He has saved his peak for the final. His TB and 5-setter records (37-10, winning the last 8) are great and may likely come handy. Hope he can serve better and remain patient when the ball keeps coming back.

Med has a small mental edge with that 2021 win plus Dubai this year. His game bothers Novak and he really has nothing to lose against the GOAT. But he may have peaked already in the SF. His 5-setter record is 4-9, losing famously to Nadal at USO and AO after long battles.
