Thiem is ranked #82 and has done nothing in years

Bublik can be dangerous but his current form is lousy, he lost to ancient Monfils two weeks ago in Washington

Karatsev has done nothing in so long I can't remember when he did anything, lost to a nobody in qualies in Cincy

Lehecka has never won a title and is a whopping 50% for his career in W-L, 41-40 in ATP matches

Rune is playing like a hot mess, lost second round in both Toronto and Cincy and has the confidence level of a circus midget right now

I won't even mention Shelton since the hype this guy receives here is ridiculous and unwarranted.

This quarter of the draw is a joke tbh.
Shelton actually doesn't really get that much hype around here. He deservedly did for a bit after his AO QF, but he hasn't done much since and most posters recognize that.

I think Eubanks' Big Moment - that run of winning Mallorca, Wimbledon QF, winning two rounds in ATL, on top of a Miami QF earlier in the year - may be over sooner than I expected. Well, the moment is already over, but I mean a longer period of better results and more consistent play that I was looking forward to and thought might happen. Ever since the Vucik match in ATL, he's looked like the old Eubanks - capable at times, but ultimately too inconsistent. But as I've said before, the Big Moment netted him so many ranking points that he can play main draws at basically any event until Wimbledon next year, so at least he has a lot more opportunities for good results.

Just this week there were several posts predicting him as winning a slam by 2025 and becoming top 5 next year. Multiple people too, not like one deranged troll. It's obvious he's not winning slams or ever being top 5. The Shelton hype is like Sinner hype here, but Sinner is at least a top 10 player.

Too early to predict.

Why don't you enlighten us with another one of your laconic prophecies?

One year ago...
I'm glad for this thread since I never heard of Ben before. But I agree, his slice is literally non-existent and his BH is just plain bad. He'll hover around a 100-125 ranking his whole career. Lousy movement too. Never will win even a 500. Or a 250.

So flattered you stalk me. :) Can't believe you took time off from your 1,000 posts about Alcaraz doping, taking PED's, testosterone, etc. That's more tiresome ultimately than laconic prophecies.

Anyway, I enjoy your posts and input on all threads, sorry the feeling isn't mutual, but life continues on.

Definition of a lucky loser? Medvedev's fist round opponent is Balazs, a 35 year old Hungarian who has 0 ATP points. He played 3 matches (2 were qualifiers) this year losing all of them. Only won 2 Challenger level matches last year. Only in the draw because Shapovalov withdrew with knee injury. $81,500 in the bank.

Well, you were the one who posted, "Some people forget that the U.S. Open isn't one of the Djokovic's best Grand Slams" as if winning three, was a fluke or coincidence.
Why are people like this? It's not one of DJOKOVIC's best Grand Slams is an accurate thing to say - compared to the Australian Open and Wimbledon, the U.S. Open and the French Open are less of a slam dunk likely to win GS for him. This is an accurate thing to say about HIM.

Yes, in RG and US Open, Djoker is less successful than in AO & Wimbledon, but this year he won RG, he can win US Open too.

I will hope he doesn't - I want Carlos to win and if not Carlos anyone but Djokovic.
On the US Open, Nole did less well compared to the Aus Open due to the conditions, the Deco Turf (USO surface until 2019) was slow with high ball bounces, which didn't suit Nole's game much. As of 2020, the US Open uses the Laykold, which is slightly faster and has lower ball bounces, which works in Nole's favor.

No, it is not. Djokovic won three of the titles, which means he knows how to win there. It is not a fluke, or "weakness" in his game. Yet, in your I-hate-Djokovic-athon posts, you attempt to sell the idea the notion that he's in some inferior position there, but Alcaraz--who only has one USO title as of this date--is a guarantee, when no one knows the outcome of any major.

11. Karen Khachanov
12. Alexander Zverev
13. Alex de Minaur
14. Tommy Paul

My question is isn't Alcarez the #1 seed ?? isn't the #1 seed usually supposed to get the better easier draw than #2 seed ?? this is very confusing to me

Alcaraz did the Stars of the Open which raised 320,000 for Ukrainian humanitarian relief. Gee no Russkies or Serbs were there. Many good people were, lots of laughs and fun.
Thanks to them. Dolgopolov is busy operating drones for Ukrainian intelligence in the war. Hope he stays alive.

Hmmm... I said I hope and I predict Alcaraz! Yes, I can't stand Djokovic and I believe he is bad for the sport and hurting the sport by his continued presence in it. Djokovic fans always put words in my mouth - Alcaraz is 20 years old, Djokovic is 36! Of course Djokovic has won 3 and Alcaraz has won just the one! In 16 years let's see how many Alcaraz has then! :) :) :) I hope and predict that Alcaraz will win the 2023 USO!!!! I will be really disappointed if Djokovic wins yet another one ): It will not be good for the sport of tennis!

Can you support your assertion that Djokovic is "bad for the sport" and "hurting the sport" ?
How so, exactly?

Thiem will have two chances tomorrow. If he loses he can still go on if his learning version improves his flaws.

Nadal has not retired, so he's still a factor in the sport. I do not recall you saying he was "hurting" the sport by sticking around. Further, you are quite transparent: you only think Djokovic is "hurting" the sport because he poses a threat to the life-supported players who cannot win a major (aka doing their job) when he's around, and as much as it pains you to accept it, Djokovic can beat Alcaraz, and has done so recently. Please save the excuses for that loss.

I don't suppose anyone living in the UK knows of a cheaper way to access the tournament other than subscribing to Sky Sports? £26 to watch two weeks of tennis?! Bloody hell.

Most people I know don't want to be invested in tennis because they do not like Djokovic. When I tell them about Carlos they get interested - or other young players too. Djokovic is in my view correctly viewed as dishonest and arrogant; most people do not care for those qualities. People will stay away when the same person wins too much - now I know: I want Carlos to win all the time but that doesn't mean that it would be good for the sport! (; I just love Carlos so much and always want him to win!!! :) :) :) :)

I love Rafa but I prefer for Carlos to win now. If they play each other I root for Carlos. Carlos and Novak are now 2-2. I freely admit and have never been shy about saying that I plain dislike Djokovic - I believe he is dishonest and arrogant and not good for this sport I love so much. I am a former player (college level) and won most of my singles matches and almost every single doubles match (because my doubles partner was the one who could win against me in singles!) (; ha ha ha!

Djokovic draw a djoke. He gets the 32 seed in his section. And gets struggling FAA 15 seed and then a struggling fritz in the quarters. Or his pigeon Tsitsipas...there is nobody dangerous in that whole quarter.
He has not won USO since 2018. Will not be a cake walk for Novak.

Interesting; thanks for your considered response. I would only mention that Pro Tennis is not a popularity contest;
it's in fact about as close to a meritocracy as can be found in sports. Djok's not my favorite player, but I'm glad he's
here and still doin' it at 36. Kudos to him- for many reasons. As for dishonesty.. your guy has some issues in that
area, which his sleeveless bit will point up for many.

What's good for him is he's already won the thing. Go, Thiem / Evans / Musetti / Wawrinka / Lajovic.
And Shapovalov in absentia.

Sadly, it won't. The suspension of disbelief is extremely powerful in these parts...

Meaning what exactly?

I'm picking Ruud for the win.
Djokovic hasn't performed at the USO for a while. Carlitos is due a massive let down. Sinner is a flop. Rune is injured.
Ruud is my man.

Exciting times! Todays the day and it’s back on sky sports too. Feels like old times. Let’s hope for a great 2 weeks with some entertaining tennis and matches. May the best player win! :)
