People have said the same about Djokovic and Nadal. But the thing is, great defense is as important as great offense. If you can do both, you are going to be an ATG.
Gauff adjusted to Sabalenka incredibly well. Sabalenka did not. The better player won.
The last teenage major champion to win more majors is Iga Swiatek.Hopefully Coco does more with her career than those two..
So, are you saying you would support Med if the crowd supports Djokovic tomorrow?I am just anti-this crowd. Whoever this crowd is for, I’m against. No offense, Coco. Congrats.

I also love how rec players here be like well Sabs just hit the ball dumb, Coco had nothing to do with it. LOL.
Ya dude im sure ya could have beat her today cause she was just hitting errors to any old personDude some of those UEs where on sabs. Going for too much. It’s called UEs. Unforced!!!!!
Those guys play offense though. Come on man. I believe Gauff just had 11 winners.
So Joco was copying Coco's celebration, not Ben's.
Hmm, when your opponent is making you win every point four times, you're going to start racking up the errors if you have no plan other than to blow her off the court.Dude some of those UEs where on sabs. Going for too much. It’s called UEs. Unforced!!!!!
Hard to think that Coco will struggle with that, given that she's been labeled as the next great American since coming on tour at 15. I'm just glad she managed to live up to some of the hype. It seems like it took her forever to get there - funny that she's just 19. Here's to hoping for more.
Well, she didn't play like this is the obvious answer to that question. She was incredible against Keys in the second and particularly third sets. If you think Maddy ****ing Keys should have been here you must not have watched her attempt at a US Open final.
Dude some of those UEs where on sabs. Going for too much. It’s called UEs. Unforced!!!!!
Exactly. That and Gauff has achieved WAY more than Raducanu at this point. If anything Gauff was a possible favorite this tournament and lived up to it by winning unlike Raducanu who came out of nowhereGauff is unlikely to suffer the same injuries. She looks the most physically stable woman on tour.

It's the pressure of playing someone who can make it to your shots and has game.
It doesn't happen out of nowhere.
You'd think after decades of Nadal and Djokovic this would have sunk in.
I completely agree. That’s the point. Sabalenka is so one dimensional. She didn’t give Gauff a different look at all.
If Gauff gives her WWE intro for Novak onto the court tomorrow, he wins for sure!Let's complete the sweep Novak!
Yeah, Natasha Zvereva's 0-6, 0-6 loss in the 1988 French come to mind.An epic meltdown but there have been loads of one sided slam finals.
Anyone who has been watching tennis for a while and doesn't have an agenda should recognize that.
This match doesn't belong anywhere near that list
Come on, bro. That's disrespectful to someone who achieved a career slam.Sabs is Sharapova 2.0. Seen this show before.
She was going for too much because her usual power didn’t faze Coco and because Sab was not getting cream puff balls back that she could destroy.Dude some of those UEs where on sabs. Going for too much. It’s called UEs. Unforced!!!!!
It is hard to know how much of that was a meltdown, and how much was just being badly overmatched. Probably a combination of both. It was one of those rare final matches you probably predicted someone to win a quite low number of games going in, even though definitely not a double bagel prediction.Yeah, Natasha Zvereva's 0-6, 0-6 loss in the 1988 French come to mind.
Sabs could do that. Still early. Her game reminds me of Sharapova. Hits hard, serves a mess, and screams.Come on, bro. That's disrespectful to someone who achieved a career slam.
Sharapova at 17yo dismantled a prime Serena at Wimbledon. (Of course she lost 879 times in a row after that but...)Sabs could do that. Still early. Her game reminds me of Sharapova. Hits hard, serves a mess, and screams.

That’s why I said just talking about UE and not why they happened are missing the point.
Yeah I only saw the third set but in that one at least Sabalenka was mostly missing after reasonably extended rallies. She wasn’t missing every easy third ball forehand or something like that. And Gauff did a great job not just returning Aryna’s bombs but varying up the shape and placement of the ball she was hitting, forcing Sabalenka to hit the ball uncomfortably high or uncomfortably far inside the court, or what-have-you.Hmm, when your opponent is making you win every point four times, you're going to start racking up the errors if you have no plan other than to blow her off the court.
I think she might move better than Sharapova but thats about it. The go for broke screaming style, the cant serve from one day to the next. Her size. She is Sharapova 2.0Sharapova at 17yo dismantled a prime Serena at Wimbledon. (Of course she lost 879 times in a row after that but...)
Hey those guys play offense as well.
It reminds me of an interview I saw where Djokovic said one of the players (outside of Nadal) that he hated playing the most was -- Gilles Simon. Of all people. Same reasons. The man gets to every ball. It didn't matter what you did. Offensive. Defensive. Flat. Loopy. He said that even your best tennis is only 50% chance to win the point. 40 ball rallies.
He said that even though he always felt confident he would win the match... there was going to be no easy points. You have to hit 10 winners on every point and you cannot make mistakes.
So does Gauff when he's not playing someone bashing every shot.
I haven’t seen it. She won this slam playing retriever. This is what she is in my opinion.
Again a lot of those UEs where on her. She wasn’t patient. So one dimensional. Curious to see how many slams Gauff can win by playing like this.
So does Gauff when she's not playing someone bashing every shot.
And she didn't just retrieve or she'd not have won all those points. Not how it works, sorry.
They give them eyes bit they do not see.
Go back and watch the Ostapenko match.
MightyRick’s excellent post on Novak and Nadal also playing situational tennis and how Coco destroyed Ostapenko should be the end of this specific discussion.
This reminds after Portugal won the euros some years back. A bunch of people saying she not win the match even if she wins the match. Whatever that means.

Its literally like saying the puncher should always win in a boxing match. Hey this guy can knock you out, just give him the title ok?Of course. Just a bunch of clowns going on about unforced errors with no idea how and why those errors actually happened.
The person who hit the hardest line drive should always win in their minds.

This is what I am saying. It is not about Coco’s playing style. You are trying your best to not give her credit for whatever reason. You did this after Cincy. You thought it was a flash in the pan and felt you would be proven right at the USO. However now that she won here as well you are just throwing sht on the wall to see what will stick.Ostapenko was garbage dude lol
sir, this is the WTANot really but don’t depend on more than half of your points on the other player making an UE lol. I think sabalenka is so one dimensional she didn’t have a plan b
