The third slam of the year will start in just a few days!
Rybakina will be trying to defend her title from last year.
Get your votes in and don't be shy to let us know if you have a particular 'Other' player in mind in the comments.
My fave players aren't named in the poll, perhaps next year. :)

I created this thread to discuss players' games, matches (live and completed) strategies, strengths, weaknesses, recommendations, kits etc.
It was not created to simply post match scores.

Rybakina drawn to face Cornet in the 2R.

Tough one. Last year at Wimbledon she was the one to end #1 Swiatek's 37 match winning streak by winning their 3R match. Has quite a few good wins on the grass at Wimbledon. The Serena 2014 win always comes to mind.

Muchova vs Niemeier R1, damn.

I voted for Vekic to win the whole thing, anyway, it's very open. And 1GA got a nice draw here, Ryba and Saba, not so much.

I believe each of the following have both the means and motive to take out Iggy Pol:
Sabalenka
Rybakina
Vekic
Ostapenko
Krejcikova
Kvitova
Potato
Keys
Fruity1
Giorgi

Rybakina, Kvitova and Venus the only 3 former champions in the draw.

2021 champ Barty retired, 2019 champ Halep suspended, 2018 champ Kerber on maternity leave, 2017 champ Muguruza on a break from tour. And then Serena and Bartoli retired. That's everyone dating back to Mauresmo in 2006!

Andreescu - Bondar
Mirra - Wang
Muchova - Niemeier
Gracheva - Giorgi

You are right. This thread is under the Match results sub-forum, yet OP said no match scores? Where are the @mods?
Allow me to clarify.
Dropping by to simply post the score is not constructive. There are any number of other sites people can go to to check the score if they are interested in that.

As I mentioned, discussing how the match is going, or how it went, what strategies could/should be used by the player, problems a player is having,
troubleshooting a match, analyzing their shots/behavior, who is likely to win, what matches should be exciting, etc. etc. is encouraged!

Results can be discussed in this Forum, but they don't have to be. I am choosing not to simply post the scores and nothing else.
But if you want to start a thread with just the scores, be my guest! :)

Best part is OP still does not have a reliable place for scores.

I generally don't use it either, but for tennis scores I do.
What's your go to site to get all the live tennis scores?
Anyone else like to suggest theirs?

Poor guy.

Who can challenge Iga in the top half?

Martic in R3 could be tough if it happens.
Has Bencic played recently? Seems an unlikely R4.

Kasatkina, Azarenka, Svitolina and Gauff are could all make the QF. Venus is in that 8th of the draw too but I doubt she has the legs to win multiple rounds now if she has a few 3 setters. Have we seen Gauff vs Swiatek on grass before? Maybe this is the most likely surface that Gauff could take her to 3 sets at least?

Then there's Pegula, Samsonova, Kudermetova, Vondrousova, Vekic and Garcia - only 1 of these will make the QF. Vekic could face Stephens in R2 which would be good to see. At this point banking on someone like Samsonova to make the SF is not a comfortable prediction.

The bottom half seems a bit more stacked with the likes of Kvitova, Rybakina, Sabalenka, Jabeur, Haddad Maia, Ostapenko and Krejcikova, as well as the likes of Alexandrova, Niemeier and Muchova.

It really is anyone's taking. I wouldn't be shocked if Swiatek wins it, but also if someone like Kvitova continues in her current form, I could see her taking it.

Don't forget Keys.
I just watched her Eastborne final highlights and she is in fine form going into Wimbie!

Yeah, it would be good to see her peak here. I didn't include her cause she's been MIA for a long time now prior to this.

Interesting to note that Wimbledon is giving Venus Williams the "respect" for being a 5-time champion by scheduling her on Centre Court, while the current #1 Iga is scheduled on No. 1 Court. Maybe it's a coincidence.

That's disgraceful for me. 43 year old literally playing for nostalgia, hasn't won anything in how many years? Hasn't even qualified on merit.

Vs Iga, argubly the best player since Serena; world number 1. She's earned better treatment than that.

Edit - Venus hasn't won a title since Taiwan in 2016.

If Federer comes back in 2026, are we just going to let him play centre court and shove 4 time major winner and world number 1 Alcaraz out onto Court 1?

They would 1000% put Fed back on Centre, but that's for another thread.

First on matches today aren't stellar, looks like Martic/Linda F. & Parry/Dart would get my votes.

Finally getting a chance to actually look at the draw with the tournament about to kick off in 10 minutes and wow, this is insane to try to predict a winner.

While picking a winner is incredibly hard, i'm very confident in saying that it won't be Swiatek.

Has only played like 4 grass tournaments in her career, only scored her first top 50 win on grass last week in Bad Homburg.

Draw isn't too bad but I don't see it happening at all.

Sabalenka's draw is tricky, Giorgi in the 2R always tough. Her RG conqueror Muchova looms in the 4R.

Rybakina's draw also not great with Cornet likely in the 2R who knocked out Iga here last year, Boulter in the 3R who just won Nottingham, Ostapenko or Haddad Maia looming in the 4R.

Kvitova I just can't entertain given how she never shows up at Wimbledon even when she has an amazing grass lead in. I hope she proves me wrong and even wins it all but can't pick her.

Pegula has a brilliant draw but hasn't really ever shown anything on grass so it's hard to entertain her.

Keys also with a brilliant draw, I know she's got Sakkari 3R but Maria is just a mess. Madison to go deep here I reckon.

Geez tennis is a cruel sport…..

Ana Bogdan has had such a great grasscourt season in the lead up to Wimbledon. She had every reason to expect she might be a chance for a good Wimbledon run.

Then comes the draw….. BANG!! Bogdan draws power baseliner beast Samsonova First round.

Good luck to Bogdan, though. Would be great to see her pull the upset. She played fantastic tennis all through the second half of June.

Im not sure exactly when this appointment took place but interesting to see Bogdan is working with Thomas Drouet, the coach famous for being punched in the face by John Tomic.

Kvitova’s record at Wimbledon outside of her two winning years is horrible, isn’t it? It’s bizarre how she can be so good those two years and be awful otherwise. Kvitova could win it this year, or bomb out early. I can picture both scenarios.

I know this is an easy pick, but I think Swiatek is going to do the Channel Slam, which is huge.

I think it would be much less surprising than when Halep and Muguruza came through and won it in years gone by.

@Mark-Touch - if you are looking for an WTA / ATP live scores app, I find ATP WTA Live is pretty good.

Tread with care, though, the quality of the experience may vary depending on your platform. I know some people despise this app with a passion while others love it.

I'm starting with Bogdan trying to tame Samsonova's power game.
Taming going very well in that respect that Ana took the first set after tie-break even though she made a pair of UEs earlier in the set in the worst possible moments. (There seemed to be some bad bounces on that court?!? )

Now it's time to check how Fruity is doing...

@Aussie Darcy Swiatek won the junior's Wimbledon, though!? (and not the junior French)
Very true but she hasn't shown anything to me on grass in her more recent career to show why she is one of the top picks for the title. Although in saying that, pretty much any of the players I have as my top picks I can easily see losing early.

So you both have Iga nabbing slam #5 here which would also mean she's won a slam on all 3 surfaces?

Interesting, no shade being thrown! I just can't see it.

I think Sabalenka is the favourite on this surface but Swiatak would be 2nd favourite for me. A lot of the big serving, big hitting players who might have taken Iga out don't seem to have fallen in her section.

Is she the favourite though? I mean nothing makes sense for any of the ladies to be favourite.

Don't get me wrong, Sabalenka is my betting tip to win the title but the stats just don't back her up. She has no grass titles. Just one top 10 win on grass. She played 1 lead in tournament for this Wimbledon losing 2R in straight sets to Kudermetova in Berlin. Her Wimbledon draw isn't great with Giorgi likely in the 2R. Camila won their last 2 matches including one on grass in Eastbourne 2 years ago.

I don't think I could say Sabalenka is the favourite on this surface and neither is Swiatek. But I don't know who is!!

Barbora Strycova is the first winner of this years Wimbledon tournament.

Wouldn't have believed it 6 months ago considering she was basically retired after having a child but here we are!

One of the funnier things I saw with the draw is that, in the top little section where Swiatek is, there's only one player who has made a Wimbledon QF before.

It's not any of the 4 seeds which are Swiatek, Martic, Linette or Bencic. It's not the former top 10 and AO finalist Collins. Nope, it's Strycova. Who made the SF's here only 4 years ago.

^^ Barbie is cool and I'm so happy she is back and playing good! Saw her playing live in Italian Open/Rome in 2017 and she was giving lectures to the crowd how they/we should behave! :D And her shaking hands lecture for Svitolina is a definite classic tennis moment!

i'm afraid Fruity1 is about to lose, she is not mentally as tough as her little sis.

Bogdan vs. Samsonova still very tight. Ana seems mentally strong so she might really take this...

Fair. It’s weird….. picking Swiatek is kind of a lazy pick, but at the same time it’s also a distinct possibility of not happening as she just has no grass pedigree at all. I can understand not picking her.

The three things that are swinging me are her confidence now is just beyond belief, she has a very good draw, and she looked very comfortable on the grass. I’m going out on a limb and suggesting she is going to get really good on grass really quickly.

Wow, Ana keep this going! I don’t want to jinx this but Bogdan potentially going to take Samsonova’s spot in the draw here.

Jeez. Davis saves 2 match points in the second set tiebreaker against Pegula and we are going 3.

Pegula really had that match, terrible long ball to give Davis the set.

3rd set coming..

Bloody hell! Upset alert possibility? I’m watching Bogdan vs Samsonova so haven’t seen any of that Davis vs JPEG match
