You dispatched two big names on tour right now in terrific matches and then plays like thin in the final? Sad story.

On the other hand isn‘t it great for the WTA? Any random player can win a Slam! We never had times like this before.
Lol.

She's the Olympic silver medalist and was also a former slam finalist at the 2019 French Open. Pretty incorrect to call her a random player.

Last year Rybakina was a "random player" as you say who won the Wimbledon title, she's since gone on to win Indian Wells and Rome, make the Aus Open final and get to #3 in the world.

Yup. let's pretends she's not the first unseeded player who won W19 in many many years. Unseeded = random.

Lmao do you know nothing about tennis? Maybe take a look at why she was unseeded, maybe because this time 12 months ago she was injured, missing Wimbledon due to having wrist surgery and her wrist was in a cast. Also missed the US Open. You act like we didn't have incredible players win slams unseeded due to being out for injury like oh I don't know.. Serena freaking Williams

I don't see her name in the topic's survey. I suppose Vondrusova is under the "other" category. "Other" = random.

I guess you missed that whole Raducanu thing?

As Darcy pointed out, she was likely unseeded (and unexpected) because of injury. But anyone who follows the WTA would have been familiar with her and her considerable potential. Given her past record on grass, it's a surprise result, but hardly shocking and not completely out of nowhere, like Raducanu. That one was truly inexplicable.

But having said that, we are still in a time when some seemingly WTA results can emerge. Some of the top players (Rybakina, Sabalenka) are total power players, and so an off day could mean an upset. Likewise, Swiatek is still enough of a head case that she isn't a guarantee.

I also said before, and I'll say it again, that if 1988 Graf or Navratilova would have been in this field, they would have won the title without dropping a set.
