They say the Sunshine Double is hard. Almost a month of straight everyday tennis. JPeg ran out of steam, with added burden of the doubles matches. Ryba had those KT tapes on early part of IW, had them on again tonight. Their levels dropped percipitously but the desires were still there. Ryba yelled and screamed at her box, JPeg hit a ball out of the stadium, smashed her racket… it made for a poor watch technically, but compelling emotionally.

It also showed that JPEG needs to develop more offensive weapons. IS, AS, ER, SW, NO could all BEAT up on the opponents. Fetchers like Halep or Wozniaki win occasionally. Don’t be a fetcher.

I mean I know Woz was no ones favorite. But she did win 30 titles. Thats a heck of a fetcher.

Yes, her accent is very heavy, and she says a lot of strange things while trying to use American slang.

She never shows any "fire," if you mean fire in, like, the Danielle Collins sense.

Again, she pretty much always looks like this. If she makes more shots than she misses, she wins.

Huh? How about all of the other players on the WTA and ATP tour that have "tried" tennis, and haven't peaked at 33 years old?
And I'm not saying it's impossible, but you are implying she suddenly found all these new weapons or tools. Can it just be that she is having a good run of form? That happens to everyone, at various points of their careers, and isn't based on something particularly tangible.
Again, it's not easy to understand just by watching the game.

Definitely a strange match, as others have said. Always seemed to be on Rybakina's racquet, though, and as soon as she found her range, it turned around very quickly.

Well I actually do play tennis myself, so now what? (And no, I'm not a pro, before you even bother to ask. So I'm still clueless, right?)

It wasn't a great match but I noticed Rybakina's volleys have improved a lot.
Some of those drop volleys were brilliant.
She could be a serial Wimbledon winner if she keeps this up.
She did seem to volley very well in some situations, and those drop volleys looked very nice. Not sure if that is truly her level, or they just worked out well for her. Need a bigger sample size.

But at least she came in a few times. I imagine that her coaches are constantly drilling that idea into her head. Most of the WTA tour seem completely allergic to the net.
It must hav even bad if Jesse pegula was breaking a racquet.
Yeah, she is known for her calm demeanor and composure, but that hasn't been the case here (or in IW). Maybe it's the family stuff going on, or maybe she now has higher expectations for herself. The free ride of mental clarity is seems to be over, though.

As noted, both players were spraying errors left right and center during the match.
It seemed neither one really wanted to be there.
Is it possible that both are early birds and the rain delay/late start really messed
up their heads (playing so late)?

With Wimbledon's announcement that it will allow Russians and Belarussians to play, the ATP and WTA should reinstate Wimbledon's lost points after this week. That punishment is no longer relevant, and it's ridiculous that Rybakina, the reigning Wimbledon champion, Indian Wells champion, Australian Open runner-up, and likely Miami winner is ranked #7 in the world when she should be #3.

IMO Rybakina will probably rise to #5 at least during the clay season given how little points she has to defend, and given how much Jabeur has to lose on the other hand. But yeah it's a shame.

10 straight points. 3 games in a row, last 2 at Love. She mad good.
Frustratingly streaky (or inconsistent, pick your term), like a lot of WTA players. Can look like an absolute world beater, or can look sloppy and confused.

and given how much Jabeur has to lose on the other hand.
Oh, Jabeur, remember her? Seems like she hasn't played well in a while now. If she doesn't wake up this clay season, we may never see her reach this level again.

Everything that went down with this points story (and with the war itself...) has been completely ridiculous. But on the flip side, she won't plummet dramatically if she happens to lose early this year. And her seeding is still good enough to not completely mess up any draws.
