It's been a while since i've watched Keys but my god she's still the most awful, inconsistent mess of a player.

Two terrible errors and now a double fault for Kalinina to get triple break points for a 5-0 lead.

This comes after she easily won the first set 6-2.

Great win and run this tournament for Kalinina. Last year made the QF in Madrid but failed to defend the points this year and dropped from #34 to #47 in the rankings. Now into the QF's in Rome and back inside the top 40 in the live rankings.

Madison Keys meanwhile, continues to be the most inconsistent mess on tour.

Mess is harsh. She lost to quality opponents before today this year.
Come on it's Madison Keys. For some she was meant to be the successor to the Williams sisters, at the very least we know she should be a slam champion by now. Instead she has an embarrassing slam final demolition to Sloane Stephens and an incredible mismatch of inconsistent results for the last 7+ years. Always done well enough to hang in the top 30 but today shows why her career has gone the way it has.

Keys has more slam SF's than Ash Barty yet Ash won 3 slams while Keys has won 0 and even lost to Barty in 2 of those 3 slam runs. Keys is a mess.

Flat ball hitter.

She slid awkwardly and aggravated her ankle injury. Medical time out and few games later she quitted.
Thanks.
I'm just puzzled about what you said about her "ankle injury".
From the match before and this match I saw her getting treatment for her upper leg, not ankle.

She started her match with Rybakina with her left ankle strapped, the same she twisted during her slide.

Keys probably would have excited me if she'd been a Brit, but looking in from the outside she's never been anywhere close to being a Williams successor for me. Dangerous on her day but it's mainly the serve that causes a few nerves. Her ground game has always looked weak against the elite players.

I'm not suprised she's bludgeoned her way through to a few slam semi finals (and a final). She's essentially North American Pliskova. The only reason Barty might have less of this or that is because she kept her peak era blink-and-you'll-miss-it.

They get paid half, what are you on about equality?
Well, there are many that make the argument that the women get less attention because they aren't "featured" enough, often getting second billing on the show courts. So the idea is to give them prime time slots in order to increase their popularity, and therefore increase the revenue they generate (which is the issue behind the pay gap).

I hate when competitors wear the same kit.
It's so unimaginative on the part of the sponsors.
Multi-billion dollar companies can't hire designers
who can design more than one kit per tournament?
This needs to be a rule, and it needs to be implemented tomorrow. Every other sport has no problem telling competitors they cannot wear the same colors, so why can't tennis manage this? Some of the men are the worse, when both players have on the same kit and the same hat, so you really can't tell who is who at a glance. Just needlessly annoying for spectators.

Nice comeback from Vekic. Fine looking woman and best dressed on tour. There's something elegant about her.
Sorry, I'm crushing.
Is she wearing Lotto? If not, and if she isn't Camila wearing Giomila, then she isn't the best dressed on tour...

I think she has her own brand.

Sabalenka still waiting for UK visa approval apparently with 48 days to go until Wimbledon. I don't know if this will become a thing or if it will fizzle out in the next few days.

In darts though, 2 foreign players have been waiting since January to get their visa and nothing.

Valiant fight by Vekic to get to 4-5 break point second set. Couldn't convert though.
Vekic has all the shots to keep up with Iga.
What she lacks, and is key, is movement, particularly lateral.
Once Iga gets her moving side to side, she's doomed. :(

Another routine win for Iga. Hard to win against Iga playing Iga's rally game, especially if one doesn't have the fire power to play first strike game.

Once Iga found the short angle during rally, Dokic was done.

Next round is against Rybakina who has a 3-1 H2H lead against Iga in their last 3 meetings. Should be an interesting match.
