Tennis wins either way but can Djokovic survive the top-10 destroyer?

If there is someone who deserves to beat the GOAT here then it's Sinner.

Vote and discuss.

It's over. Sinner should've known better. He had a win vs. Novak and would have won the tournament. You don't just hand out opportunities for free like this, he will come back and eat you alive.

Based on level going in, I could really see Sinner winning this… But I’m not sure I can bring myself to favor him over Novak in a big final. Not at this point. Djokovic in 3.

Djokovic loves to play spoiler he’s done it many times over the years. Sinner will be tougher than Alcaraz though. He loves the indoor quicker conditions here and that win over Djokovic will help his confidence.

This could go either way but I feel Djokovic maybe tougher than he was in RR match. Sinner needs to replicate his level that day and hope Novak peaked a bit early tonight.

I see a 3 setter with a slight edge to Novak. I was wrong in the group match though and Sinner absolutely has a great chance the way he’s playing right now and crowd behind him.

Can’t wait for it!

Sinner has another 15 years to win a Final title, the Goat only has another 10 years left, so let's hope Novak wins it...

Won't mind Sinner also winning it, going to be epic final.
Best ever/best player this year vs second best player currently in the final and maybe future nr.1 taking over from Novak, great stuff.

@Kralingen breakthrough tournament for Sinner. He’s going to beat Djokovic. I feel the breakthrough- giving me Houston 2003 vybes. I just can’t see a 36 year old winning 3 slams + atp finals, too good to be true

If Djokovic wins tomorrow I may have to re-visit this post.

No problem. Djokovic is 36 and can’t win everything. Tomorrow is a major turning point for Sinner and I think he’ll be the next player to win a major before turning 24 years old since the big three

The way Djokovic played today is a level above what he showed against Sinner and yet he lost only in the third set TB against probably the most in form player on tour

Djokovic for the win

Crazy how everyone is just mocking Sinner for NOT throwing a match against a major rival. In the Italian forums too! Meanwhile Sinner has already earned 1000 points and 2.5 million dollars for four days of work. Guess that's why we're here and he's there.
I think he’s going to win tomorrow

Sinner absolutely can win this but he needs to bring the same level he did in the group match.

However, Novak will be extra motivated himself and this time there is a trophy on the line. This is usually where Djokovic goes into lockdown mode like he did tonight. Eveg the great roger Federer found that out in 2015.

It is going to be close for sure.

Had Sinner lost the third set against Rune, would that have eliminated Djokovic? Did Rune actually have betters games won percentage than Djokovic?

so they can play again in the semis of Davis Cup too?....3 wins over Novak in a week and a half would make Sinner a legend

This is actually the constellation I want to see in every tournament these days. The absolute in-form player having the run of his life competes in the final against Novak Djokovic. It's the only way how it gets interesting in these days without big star power apart from Djokovic himself.

This match somehow reminds me of Federer against Gonzalez at the 2007 Australian Open. Sinner absolutely crushing it, but the final boss ist still waiting, as always.

Finally a battle of the ages, Peak Djokovic vs Peak Sinner, who will win?
Just curious to know how you feel about this.
Since we all know what the definition of 'peak' is,
and since you say both players are currently at peak,
that would necessarily mean that Sinner has only way to go from here
(and it ain't up).

With Djoker, it's to be expected. But Sinner???
I think dking68 would have other thoughts on this.

Sinner is going to beat him tomorrow. Djokovic is 36 years old and I don’t see him vulturing four/five of the biggest titles this season.

Congrats sinner for 5-0 and 4.9 million dollars. And congrats on your first grand slam title in 2024.

Record 7th YEC/WTF trophy for Djokovic will come with massive pressure. Possibly Choke like 2021 USO.

That’s not really pressure. He’s won 6 of these and already tied with Fed. He

Sinner has the pressure trying to win his first with the Italian crowd roaring him up and high expectations after already beating Djokovic in the group match.

Djoko has already won 3 slams, 2 masters and wrapped up no1 so it’s just another day at office for him. He can try play spoiler and feed off that.

This is a bigger match for Sinner career and to try go to another level. If he beats Djokovic twice in same event he will make history too.

Yeah definitely more pressure on Sinner and that’s why I think his level is bound to come down at some point. Playing like he has in the first four matches here he absolutely can win – not a guarantee against Novak by any means, far from it, but he’s certainly capable of playing the tennis necessary. I just assume that if one of these guys blinks, it’ll be Sinner rather than Djokovic.

You guys are ridiculous, each RR win earns an instant $390,000 prize money, not to mention unbeaten final champion will collect $4.8 M (instead of $2.2 M) and 1,500 points, no one is going to throw away the matches in YEC, you can't find that "easy" prize money and points anywhere.
