Holy crap. Unreal stuff from Sinner in that third set. He’s gonna take some beating in the final.
Indeed so. Jannik has been outstanding from the start. As he rides the crest of the wave, his confidence soaring, he has treated us to a superb display of his skills, executed with panache.

I'm really looking forward to the the second SF, and the F - if all involved can play well, it will be a magnificent ending to the year.

That was a really entertaining encounter and the final scoreline belies the closeness of the points and the extremely fine margins between them. It didn't do Medvedev justice.

Sinner's incredible clutchness on serve is what got him through. He never lost serve all match.

Sinner has won 3 close matches

It's now Over for Medvedev. He let this rivalry go

Potentially? He already has a higher career win percentage at 72% at age 22. Medvedev 71% at age 27. Sinner is definitely going to win over 78% of his matches when he retires
In Slams, it's 73.7% (Medvedev) vs 70.4% (Sinner). He has a ways to go to catch Medvedvev who has made 5 Slam finals whereas he hasn't made any yet.

Sinner is 5 years younger and yet to enter his prime and I’m sure he’ll achieve more at age 27 than Medvedev has

He's going to face Djokovic with the entire weight of his country behind him...and he's gonna get smoked. He will regret not tanking the Rune match.

That said, what an amazing performance. I don't like Medvedev at all, so this was fun to see.
And Sinner has already shown his best, while Alcaraz has more in the tank.

Yeah could easily be the best edition of this tournament in years if the last two matches deliver.

Sinner’s looking very Novak-like from the baseline. Amazing hitting on the stretch. So much consistent depth that almost always resets the point – or even takes the initiative outright. He’s obviously not the same level of mover as Djokovic, but when he does get to the ball, his hitting is ridiculous right now. And of course he’s superb in neutral or offensive positions, and on the return. Just all-around masterful ball-striking.

Most of the top 10 seem to be a bad match-up for Rublev.
I watched a match with Sinner and Rublev in the round of 16 of Roland Garros in 2022, before Sinner retired midway through the match. He was getting crushed by Sinner. Sinner made every return of his first serve and was blasting winners after winners on the Parisian clay and won the first set 6-1. Rublev was overwhelmed. Trrrible matchup

Will he pass out the tiny one in the rankings in 2024 if tiny fails to defend his Wimbledon crown?
Its only going to get harder to beat Alcaraz at Wimbledon, not even close to his prime yet....
Too bad Djokovic took so long to win Wimbledon.

I love how people get excited about Sinner. Zverev has won the ATP finals with 21 in 2018 (Sinner is 22 now, right?) Not much happened to Zverev since then (the injury aside).

Sinner is over 80% win rate this season, Zverev has never achieved that in his career

@Rovesciarete still don’t see Sinner reaching #2 in the rankings next year? Especially if Alcaraz fails to defend his Wimbledon title?

A lot will depend on this final and the Australian Open and the European clay swing. Daniil and Charlie have far less points to lose down under than Sinner. I actually hoped for a good 2022 clay season but all in all it was meh. While it started well in Monaco and it ended terribly in RG, so there are many points to gain against the other top guys.

People have to keep in mind that the top3 did overall all very well at least two thirds of the season with Novak excelling all year. Number 3 seems quite feasible with a deep in RG.

Most of the top 10 seem to be a bad match-up for Rublev.

Both redheads are doing almost all well and are reliable. I would argue both over-perform against weaker players and under-perform against stronger ones. The Daniil Zverev type of serve-pusher is an especially bad matchup for them.

I pointed out the logical conclusion of an improved Sinner a long time ago - very tough to beat for practically anybody. He has the potential to be a tyrant.
