2023 Yonex VCores

sandy beige? meh, unless the trim colors are fantastic....

I didn't study the photo I was shown but it was good looking enough for me to put an order in. At first glance, it looked off white to my eye. On second viewing, I saw the sandy color people have mentioned. Hopefully, they will unveil it sooner than later.

I might be a little late to the party, but I've now switched from the 2018 Vcore 95 (after a year and a half) to the 2023 version after quite an extended test. The big thing for me was that the new head shape seemed to shift the sweet spot slightly higher (akin to the Gravity which I used to play) which helped my natural stroke mechanics. However, the biggest difference I found was that returns are day and night. With the 2018 I always struggled with returns when playing against good players but the 2023 version doesn't seem to have any issues on returns (maybe its the head shape?). Its not all positives, the 2018 shined on volleys and slice/touch shots but the pro's of the 2023 for me, outweighed the positive of the 2018 version.

On a plus side, QC seems to be on point, especially as I bought two different rackets are different batches (from the UK and Germany). The unstrung weights were 308 g / 30.7 cm and 276 sw (for the UK racket) & 308 g / 30.7 cm and 282 sw (for the German racket). Luckily 2 g was all that was needed to match each at 310 g / 30.8 cm and 283 sw (which seems close enough to stock specs).

Currently I'm on a bit of a string test so any recommendations are welcome. So far I have tested YPTP (1.20), ReString Zero (maybe my favourite so far but put off by the price tag), Solinco Hyper G Round and Diadem Solstice.
Just finished testing Solinco Hyper-G Round and Diadem Solstice Power
HGR (Strung 44/42 lb) - Started off really well being very predictable with good spin (on par with shaped strings), and loved it on my OHBH but after 4-6 hours it dropped way to much tension and it started to trampoline on me, so I cut it out. I think I strung this too low to begin with so I may revisit in the future, but I did not enjoy the change in playability once it bagged out. Regular Hyper-G is one of my all time favourite strings, so I will likely try the Hybrid variant before the round version again.
Diadem Solstice Power - Worst string I've ever used. Had this weird, almost hollow feeling that made me feel super disconnected on all shots and then had a clean break on a central cross string after 1 - 2 hours. Granted I've had this set lying around for a few years and just never got round to testing it, so maybe the string had deteriorated? Unlikely, but it does seem odd that everyone else seems to rave about this string and my experience was awful.

Next up I'm going back to Restring Zero 1.23 mm (this has been my favourite string thus far and I have a number of league matches coming up so I want something familiar), but then I will be comparing this against TOROLINE K-POP (I'm jumping on the hype train).

K-pop is awesome…didn’t try it in V95 though.

Don’t expect the Hyper G level of spin - it’s very much a control setup.

A friend loaned me a 2016 or 2017 Vcore100SV (it's red and blue for reference). Never tried a Vcore but loved it. I see a few on ****. My question is, does the latest Vcore100 play similarly? If so, I may as well pick it up used. if not, then I'll demo a new one. For reference I have a 2021 PureDrive as my main racquet which I enjoy but I wouldn't say I love it. Vcore had more power for sure

Ye that's what I found. Luckily coming from 18x20's I'm not looking for Hyper-G levels of spin as the more open string pattern gives me more than enough, I just want something that is going to play consistent, controlled and with a little pop.

K-Pop seems like a slightly more spin friendly version of YPTP (which to me is a good thing) and it felt good right off the stringer at 48 lbs. No real complaints from me and I could happily switch to this string.
ReString Zero (strung at 44 lb) plays similarly to K-Pop at this tension and I could transition between the two comfortably. There were some differences in comfort and control (with K-Pop being slightly better in both) but the biggest difference between the two is that Zero produces a heavier and more penetrating ball which was notable in put away shots/creating angles to approach the net which pushed the opponent out further. You do however, need to aim for slightly bigger targets than K-Pop. I know Restring Zero holds tension very well, so it will be interesting to see how K-Pop holds up (I've not seen much talk on these boards about tension maintenance).

I could move to both strings quite easily but price is a little off putting :/

Is there any poly that makes the vcore even just slightly enjoyable feelwise? I just can't get over the yucky vdm feel.
You absolutely need to go as crisp and as firm as possible.

Poly: Tour Bite, Alu, BHS7T, AMP Ocho Silver, Bussard, Tour Sniper, Lynx Tour Champagne or Gray, Diadem Pro X, etc.
Gut: Luxilon
Syn-Gut: OGSM, AK Pro CX, PSGD, Lightning XX, Dynawire
Multi: Multifeel, Micronite
Multiester: Triax, Rexis Speed

Have at it my man. If that still doesn't do it, toss the VCore in the can and move on to something more direct/raw/transmissive.

Thank you trip. Does tour sniper also fit into that group?

I am seriously late to this thread, but whats the general opinion on the forgiveness of the VC98? I used to play with the 2019 version and found it very forgiving and easy to play. Maybe just a tiny bit more demanding than an average tweener, but way easier to play than the Ezone 98 (2020 version back then). Luca from racquets and runners says the current VC98 is for a more advanced player than the current Ezone 98 - is there a wide agreement on that?
Also, anyone is able to measure the twist weight of the 98 with the briffidi?

According to this the Vcore 98 2023 has a twistweight of 13.94.

I always subtract 1 from TWU's number to get an idea of what the briffidi will measure (TWU measures differently from briffidi) although this is just a starting point. It would probably on average come out to about 13.0 on a briffidi in stock form give or take a few points in either direction

I switched from the Ezone 98 2022 to the VC 98 2023 and would broadly agree with Luca. The sweet spot on the VC98 is smaller and off-center shots / framers are a little more jarring. I do find the feedback with this frame is a lot more direct, it is way less mushy than the Ezone. With the Ezone I felt way too disconnected from the ball on touch shots and at the net for example, VC98 is much better for me in this area. Not quite as responsive as the Percept line but I think a step in the right direction for my game. The only area IMO where the Ezone is more control oriented is that the string bed is a little denser w/ 8 mains in the throat.

It's clean but I think I might stick with the OG PJ. While not gilt like the Osaka frame it does kinda lean that way. What do you all think? Wait for the new one or pick up some older ones?

Did you play the vcore 100 2019, its a pretty thin beam at 21mm. I would have probably gone with a 98 but came across a deal on some 100s so thought i would give it a go. I found the ezone 98 too overpowered when i tried one about two years ago.

Another picture from the Yonex instagram page and looks like the official revival is tomorrow. I still can’t say that I’m sold on it, but the bag looks sick.

Bag does look sick… I like this cycle better with yonex.. update the racket only every 3 years or so with a paint job refresher in the middle. Even 3 years is too often but better than the ridiculous 2 year cycle.

I'm so pumped. Wonder if they will release one of their flagship strings in a new color to match. Poly Tour Rev looks and plays well in the Percept.

Looks dull- hopefully the current PJ will come down in price a little bit as my 2021 Vcore 98s are starting to look like they’ve been run over

I wouldn’t hold your breath for a price reduction. When Yonex introduced the Aqua Night PJ for the EZones, the regular PJ were discounted a total of $0.
