Sabalenka will hope to do a very rare feat and win Cincy and the US Open back to back. It’s only happened 3 times in the open era on the womens side but one of those was Coco Gauff last year. The other 2 times were Serena in 2014 and Clijsters in 2010.

Funnily enough, there’s been a number of Cincy finals that had the same 2 players as the US Open final but the result was flipped.

In 2020, Azarenka was the champ after Osaka withdrew. 2 weeks later, Osaka beat Vika in 3 sets to win the USO.

In 2016, Pliskova beat Kerber to win Cincy but 2 weeks later, Kerber got her revenge and won the US Open and claimed the #1 ranking.

In 2013, Azarenka beat Serena in the final but Serena got her revenge in the USO final.

Iga would be #1 in points JUST on hard courts.

Plus Iga has 6 hard court 1000s plus a US Open.
Aryna has 4 hard court 1000s plus 2 AOs.

You can't "Count on her" to win them all

But twice Iga has won 40 hard court matches in a year.
Aryna has never accomplished that.

All good points. Perhaps recency bias. My money is on Sabs going into USO.

Iga really didn’t have to do much there. Shame for Andreeva, but can’t really blame her. Do feel like if these sorts of things go away and she keeps developing her game she must win multiple slams

Something seems off with Iga.

A lot rests on the speed of the hard courts with Swiatek. Cinncinati is the fastest of them all (?). We won't see this result in every single arena against Sabalenka.

And I'm hearing that US Open courts are quite a bit slower than Cincy.

Whatever needs to be done to fix that...more sand, less water, whatever...needs to happen. One fast court will make the game better.
