Venus/Skupski out, now rooting for Purcell/Thompson. Young /Townsend is a good story here, hoping they'll win the title. Hope Siniakova / Townsend get through the SF and win it all.
Honestly I am not surprised, both Siniakova and Townsend tend to get very tight at crucial moments, in the last two games, you can see both of them were too cautious, a lot hesitations there.Mladenovich/Zhang took the W. I underestimated these two. I thought Townsend/Siniakova was going to take the 3rd. Very close match until the last few games where both Townsend and Siniakova made uncharacteristic misses.
It was Patrick McEnroe, there were a lot of threads here when that happened. His quote is on Taylor’s wiki page(under 2012 USO controversyBummed about Siniakova/Townsend.
I'm hoping that she can carry Donald in the mixed tomorrow, but it's going to be tough. The Italians are both real dubs players.
I wonder who it was at the usta who thought Taylor was too fat to play, and kept her out of the Open when she was younger. If she wins, I hope she calls them out.
Rooting for lammons/withrow now.
Krawietz/Puetz down 2:4, 0:40 in the deciding set - win 4 games in a row and are through to the final, just incredible.Arevalo/Pavic converted the 4th SP for the decider, Krawietz/Puetz had a match point but couldn't get it done
I'm rooting for ram and kracijek. Going to have to look at the entry list for the upcoming tournaments. Some new test pairings this month in China and Davis Cup.
Me too, and no joy-Taylor/Donald out in 2.Bummed about Siniakova/Townsend.
I'm hoping that she can carry Donald in the mixed tomorrow, but it's going to be tough. The Italians are both real dubs players....
Well, that didn't go well.I'm rooting against ostapenko perennially.
Now they are the saddest story of the USO. Pursell need to find another partner if he wants to win another slam.Pursell/Thompson are really the saddest story of this Wimby.
Nah, man, they resisted the meltdown! Pleased they won. It's Wimby deja vu. Match-balls not converted. Now they will have an epic meltdown and lose the set and then another set.
Same here. But they were pretty close.Nah, man, they resisted the meltdown! Pleased they won.
Where's Salisbury? Some new test pairings this month in China and Davis Cup.
That was on par w the wimby final, similar scoreline, too.One of the best doubles match I’ve ever seen.
Wish there was an entire match video
Like the jersey ideasNew dubs format trial in Madrid. Condensed to 5 days, Tues-sat. 15 sec serve clock, shorter breaks, crowd can come/go during play. Supposed to make it more exciting. Bryan bros said on Andy's podcast that they want the names on the backs of shirts, like jerseys. How many jerseys would fans buy if tennis did this?
Big test tomorrow against the heavy-serving Shelton/Thompson.Cash/Galloway have split. Cash now partnering Glasspool. Galloway will play w Behar in Shanghai.
Dudes overcame the test, albeit via a walk-over, but pleased nevertheless. Lammons/Withrow out to Behar/Galloway in Japan. My picks for the title are Cash/Glasspool; Behar/Galloway or Nys/Zielinski.Big test tomorrow against the heavy-serving Shelton/Thompson.
Don’t want to jinx it, but in Beijing my guys are back on their dominating Wimbledon pace, at +27 box plus-minus thru two rounds.Dudes overcame the test, albeit via a walk-over, but pleased nevertheless. Lammons/Withrow out to Behar/Galloway in Japan. My picks for the title are Cash/Glasspool; Behar/Galloway or Nys/Zielinski.
It disappoints me that 'proper' dubs teams are up against platonic pairings of singles players. In Japan, Cobolli / Musetti beat Skupski / Venus and Cerundolo/Jarry beat Bopanna/ Dodig. Perhaps I'm miffed because I wanted the losers in this example to win! My picks for the title are one of Bolleli / Vavasorri, Koohhof/Mektic or Murray/Peers.
I imagine it's awkward when they split, and meet up in the next tourney. Seems like it happens a lot, usually first or second round. The fact that it's a final must put some extra motivation on the result.Only doubs guys left in the Asian 500 draws now - the singles interlopers have been purged.
Recently separated partners Cash & Galloway will meet in the Tokyo final.
The high humidity conditions in Shanghai tend to lead to a lot of upsets. It seems like the new pairings are just trying to get used to each other and are going down to the regular teams: Ebden/Salisbury, Dodig/Bopanna, Ram/Kracijek are all out. Bolleli/Vavassori escaped a 3-tiebreak match vs. Machac/Zhang. The #2 seeds Arevalo/Pavic are out at the hands of Gille/Vliegen.
Why is that? Too slow through the air?The high humidity conditions in Shanghai tend to lead to a lot of upsets.
Lammons is historically a lot better in sweaty outdoor conditions than in indoor, so I wouldn’t bet on them going on a tear.I may have written lammons/withrow off a little prematurely: forgot that we still have the Paris masters left. If they go on a tear, they might be able to catch the #6 or 7 team, who are 800 points ahead.
The Argie veterans save a match point on Lammons’ serve in the second set and go on to win!Watched the dubs matches on tennistv (fast forward to the end): many matches seem to be really tight right now. Exciting stuff!
Just saw the score. I have to queue that one up on tennistv. Also, the scoreline for the Murray/Peers and Ebden/Bopanna match looked really close, too.The Argie veterans save a match point on Lammons’ serve in the second set and go on to win!
can you tell who I was selfishly rooting for?
