You look at the stats for this match and you'd never guess it was being played on clay. :-D Gasquet currently at 29-18 winners to unforced errors.

entire family is in gasquet box plus french crowd totally, he cant lose this match..too bad for pretty coric though

If anyone can lose from this position, Gasquet can. He has plenty of experience doing so too. :-D Hopefully Coric will give up and go away. He'll still be pretty, that's plenty of consolation.

Glad to see Kei back on court, although some clay warm up events would have been ideal. I'm not sure why he didn't play between Miami and RG.

Edit: and just like that Nishikori breaks for 4-5 in the first set. Would absolutely love for this match to at least be competitive for Kei.

Beside the arm strapping he's in very good shape physically so it's odd seeing Gasquet run rings round him.

pure greatness of Nishikori. wins the 1st set

According to commentators, Coric has NEVER come back from a 2 set deficit in his entire career.
I fear this match will go the distance

I've just been on Gasquet's Instagram after his win. I realised even though he's been around for so long I really don't know too much about him and he appears to be a bachelor - few pictures with family/friends just seems very tennis focussed yet for large swathes of the past decade he's been pretty irrelevant tennis wise. His last major QF was 2016 at RG and he's had many a different coach during his playing career. Wikipedia also doesn't have much information on him in the personal life section - siblings? Parents names/vocations? Seems odd as most top players have that information out there.
