Osaka playing well. In typical Italian fashion, Bronzetti hindrance like grunting.

Tsurenko quit because of some reason against Vekic at 5-6.:oops::mad:

And V. Kudermetova seems to be going out quickly too against Bouzkova. (Younger Kudermetova, Polina, once again played far below her talent level in the qualies and lost already in the first match)

Yastremska very nervy. Didn’t know she’d never gone past the 1R at the French Open.

Tomljanovic who’s only just returning to tour from injuries takes the first set over her. Let’s go Ajla, who has an amazing outfit.
LOVE that outfit. You have to be hot to make it work, and she's making it work.

Wow, Dayana served 3 aces in one game - the last one was 2nd serve! o_O

After I critizised her she has played well. Quite comfortable lead, at 4-1 (in the 3rd) but not over yet.

^ Sorry. Darcy, I will answer even while I was not even asked from and still with a "wrong" view. Looks gaudy. And the pattern would fit kitchen curtains... :giggle::laughing:

Damn Dayana! Start playing the way you can!!! Huge talent keeps being wasted time after time. :( (She looks stylish by the way! )

Oh and VIVA LUCIA! VIVA ITALY! (Not going to watch the match but just to make sure that NO is still the biggest 'no' for me. :D )
Yeah the pattern isn’t great but her body looks stunning and loved the sort of crop top and tennis skirt! And this is coming from a gay man hahah.

Very disappointing second set from Osaka. Spraying unforced errors left and right. Her mental strength is still an issue.

Viva Lucia!

Dayana couldn't end against Ajla just yet. But now matchball.... and Yastremska takes it! (y) (3-6, 6-3, 6-3 )

I’m getting PTSD just from the thought of that :)
The thing with Bronzetti though, is that her grunts start after the ball has crossed the net. That is quite unsportsmanlike.
Yeah this is just unnecessarily loud from Bronzetti. For all the people who complained about Osaka, she was always respectful on court, compliments the opponents winners and doesn’t grunt/scream the way that so many players do.

Break point for 5-0 for Osaka.

Funny to think that Naomi was so utterly woeful on clay before she had her child that she refused to do press conferences at the French Open a few years ago. What a turn around.

Kudos to Bronzetti there for replaying the point knowing the chair ump got it wrong.

Clay is such a joke with the line calls.

Oh my, net chord goes Osaka's way. Double break points.

And Osaka breaks!

Bronzetti must be fuming. This sure has been some 3rd set.

Wow these line calls are absolutely awful. It's been a while i've seen so many clay calls called overturned by the chair umpire.

Osaka was so confident she didn't even bother hitting it and she was right.

That is Naomi Osaka's first slam win since the birth of her child. Her first win since January 2022. She's into the French Open 2R.

Also, is Tsurenko going to be punished by the WTA soon?

So she retires down 5-6 today at the French Open (for the 2nd year in a row!!!).

2 weeks ago in Rome she retired down 0-2 against Kalinina.

Dubai in February she withdrew after the draw was done.

Also in February, she withdrew mid tournament against Osaka.

In October in Zhenghzhou she retired after losing the 1st set against Krejcikova.

In August she played qualifying and qualified for the Canadian Masters but then withdrew.

And at the French Open last year she retired in the 4R against Swiatek.

She is utterly awful at withdrawing...

^ & ^^ Ouch! :rolleyes:o_O

Countess Cristian still seems to be difficult opponent for Ostapenko! (Remember that most us heard about Cristian (in autumn of 2021?) when she surprisingly beat Ostapenko at some indoor tournament! )

You never know what you will get with Ostapenko. I think she will gradually get into the match but at the moment she’s spraying too many balls.

Vekic is OK with it.
