I fully understand what you’re saying and my comment was directed not only at you but several other posters. The fact is you can lament the situation but you can’t blame anyone but the high ranking losers. Some here even blamed us the guys who were supporting Mirra. As if our support made her win the match. I assure everyone here that my support for Mirra has absolutely nothing to do with her win. She did it all by herself. I had nothing to do with it. I swear!
:-D Ok that is pretty funny.

I am very happy for Andreeva and have high hopes for her and hope she does actually beat Paolini and think she would pose a bigger challenge to Swiatek than Jasmine would.

To be fair, Andreeva is a likely future star so her beating Sabalenka is not that bad an outcome as this can mark her coming out party like when Alcaraz beat Tsitsipas at the US Open. Paolini though is 28 and will be out of her physical prime in a couple of years. She won't be a future star outside of Italy. Rybakina was totally out of form and played one of her worst matches this year, and she still got it to 4-4 in the third. Kudos to Paolini for the win. I love her feisty, joyful presence on the court. But Swiatek has beaten Paolini twice: 6-2, 6-1 and 6-3, 6-0 and both of those matches were on hard court, not clay. If Paolini makes the final, it's not going to be pretty.
I like Andreeva a lot and have been following her game for a while and she has everything that looks like she could be a future star. BUT. I would just like to remind you and others of pretty much an almost identical situation that happened 5 years ago at this very tournament.

A bombshell youngster, 17 years old, storming into the SF's of the French Open out of nowhere with a massive top 5 win in the QF, tipped for greatness. Nope not Andreeva.

Amanda Anisimova.

Her scalp was perhaps even bigger than Andreeva's, Amanda took out the defending champ and #3 Halep in the QF. Funnily enough also took out Sabalenka that tournament too.

Now Amanda has had personal struggles since then but she was tipped for greatness and unfortunately that has not eventuated, so we need to be careful before we call Andreeva a future multi slam champ (I know you didn't but others have).

Well Darcy, different (tennis) strokes for different folks.
I was absolutely thrilled to watch that exciting U.S. Open final.
But go ahead and complain if you must. I'm starting to get used to it. :(
Way to ignore everything else I said, that's ok, i'm starting to get used to it :(

When people prove you wrong you just whine constantly.

Doubles semis on Friday:

Dolehide/Krawczyk v. Gauff/Siniakova
Errani/Paolini v. Kostyuk/Ruse
Krawczyk still such a gun in the doubles field, also in the Mixed final yet again.

That one is between
Krawczyk/Skupski v Siegemund/Roger-Vasselin.

The Siege looking for her 2nd mixed doubles title, first was the USO back in 2016. Desirae is looking for her 5th meanwhile.

Amanda is an attacking player and this happens to them when they are out of their head. Mirra is a defensive and versatile player.

Interesting French-German-pair that you don't see often. And just minute ago Laura told that she decided to participate in mixed at the last second and then she proved to be the best player in that competition!

Slightly sad that Krawczyk-Skupski lost the final again but they were practically one step behind all the time.

So, congrats Laura Siegemund & Edouard Roger-Vasselin for the victory in mixed doubles (6-4, 7-5)!

Big kudos to Laura Siegemund. Love her as a player and just so good on the clay. Second mixed doubles slam for her.

She has a good shot at the Olympics with a German man whoever it may be.

Its like no one can win anymore without generating a huge bunch of people against them for whatever reason. Good lord.
That is not not new by any stretch of the imagination. The Williams sisters era (when both made their mark at the majors early on) was undeniably worse (not to mention what Serena was subjected to throughout her entire career), and the reasons for people hating them were among the most despicable, socially dangerous of all.

Why are people hyping Mirra's win this much? Sabalenka wasn't even at 50%. She'll get double bageled if she faces Swiatek. Weird considering how nitpicky people here are generally when it comes to the level displayed throughout the match.
She's 17 and beat the #2 player in the world to advance to a semi. That's a big deal no matter how many asterisks are put in it. It should be celebrated not pooed on.

she has chance. She has variety but sometimes stuck on defensive too much.

my god coco absolutely has no confidence on the forehand and make silly error drops.

Are y'all surprised at all that unseeded Mirra Andreeva is favored over #12 seed Jasmine Paolini in the semi? Not a huge favorite, but still.

Yep. It was all over for the rest of the field after that.
Yes and whats more , osaka deserved to win that match, but people behave like it was only fluke from swiatek , nothing happened because she is n1 , she is better overall, she deserve it or need it , because she is a "star"/it is better for tournament lol and whatever , they want 5th slam no matter what, for bein lucky , I suppose

I see these two don't get a thread... Probably for the best. Less likely to be swarmed by whack-ass casuals.

Mirra hitting a little timidly now.
She should have put away the second point on her serve where she was inside the service box. She won the game anyway though.

Coco just didn't have enough to take down Iga today. BLNT, Coco. Interesting observation, when Brad Gilbert told Coco to hit higher clearance shots, that's when Iga seemed to hit better shots against her.

For those of you in America (or on the East Coast?), are you watching the NBC broadcast or Tennis Channel broadcast?

Jazzy simply need to better the accomplishment of Errani, so I kinda support her go all the way.

But, would love to see Andreeva go all the way too. True teen sensation, Raducanu who?

Iga winning cement her passing Henin accomplishments in my book.

I'm happy whoever win.

I assume you mean Iga passing Henin accomplishments at RG / on clay only right?

Well, Andreeva is the big new talent, and Paolini has been around and done nothing. Wishful thinking by the bookies, believing in Andreeva. Now that Paolini has the first set under her belt, I guess we'll see how Andreeva responds. I've seen her wilt in the face of challenges before.
