I just watched the highlights. Of course, highlights are highlights, but Dimitrov looked on fire. Reminded me of Fed in 2017 a little bit.

But he may find it harder to hit those spectacular return winners if Zverev's serve is on.
In thise case the highlights probably felt less impressive than the match, It was shot after shot after shot, really, except in the second when he was 4-1 Up, he missed 3 or 4 consecutive shots.

When Dimitrov keeps his head, especially when serving, he can beat anyone. He has always had the shots, tennis sense and fitness. His perennial problem has been brain lapses at inopportune times.

He isn’t the #17 in all time prize earnings for nothing.

Lights out from Grigor. Good for him. I hope he can make it to the final. Not a case of Carlos playing badly at all
The clown not playing bad "at all"? Scoring just 56% on 1st serve points won is outright poor (Dimi at solid 77%). Little Raz failed big time in this very basic part of the game. Also interesting - 1st serve return points won: Raz just 23% won versus 44% for Dimi. All other stats were roughly equal for both players. It appears that the serve and return performances separated the two.

Dimitrov really didn't even do much wrong in the game he was broken. Carlos just started blasting every forehand at 100 mph lol. The Bulgarian did barely miss an inside out forehand down break point, but that was his only error. Though I do think his intensity dropped a tad around 4-1 up.

Sitting on this one overnight – I do wish Alcaraz had found more solutions, but Dimitrov was playing some ridiculous tennis. Alcaraz really didn't play badly in any area, I don't think. The first serve is the one area where I think he most obviously could have done better (not a great percentage in, even worse win %, but I think both those have a lot to do with the guy on the other side of the court). One thing that differentiates this loss from some of his other recent ones is that he wasn't making boatloads of errors. His baseline game was actually pretty solid, especially considering just how much he was on his heels throughout the match. In that regard, it could even be termed an improvement over something like the Zverev loss at the Aussie. I'm sure in the future, as he matures, this is the kind of match Alcaraz could figure out a way to win. There's something he could do to disrupt Dimitrov's rhythms and make him lose confidence in the game plan that got him to 6-2 4-1, the kind of thing Nadal or Djokovic would do, and eventually he'll figure out just what that is and how to execute it. Hell, he wasn't even that far off from doing so in this one.

Hope he gets back to crushing it Indian Wells-style on the clay!

I only watched the highlights. From the highlights, it looks like Dimitrov hit everything super early by hugging the baseline. Rallies were generally very short, Dimi took time away from Alcaraz. Didn't let Alcaraz push him back with the topspin, as a matter of fact, Alcaraz was forced to play Dimi's game. Quite a few points where Alcaraz didn't expect the ball to come back so early or didn't expect Dimi to hit winners.

Dimi's FH seems to be also more efficient & compact. The speed difference between Dimi's FH to that of Alcaraz was quite obvious. This may not be a factor in clay, but on hard court it's a different story.

You are very right. The power is always going to be an issue. Now we have very big hitters in under 20 group as well.

The clown?
I see

carlos technique is fine, it takes time to learn placement, plus not every player can have an amazing serve, also easier to do with an almost 1, 90 guy
Your Boy will have plenty of time for improvement, after "second-tier" Dimitrov sent him home early.
Did Alky phone Kriek for help on that serve yet? He should: Johan could clean that thing up a little.
