I am looking at going to my first pro tournament on Monday the 29th. Are we safe to just buy tickets when we get there? Any other tips or suggestions? I have read about bringing a water bottle and umbrella. What about good sections to sit in? And is buying the open session best? We will most likely hope to mostly see the bigger names.

Is there still minimal volunteers/security checking tickets to access the stairs to the nosebleed sections of Fitzgerald?

Still one of the worst run tournaments in the country, However I can't wait to go.

Ever since Mubadala took over it’s been a cluster, true. However I am still going. Just get your tix on seat geek, dump your car at a metro station and then Uber to the event once you’re in DC. It is ridiculous they want $10 for the shuttle this year. They haven’t even posted the link. I’ll either Uber it from Columbia Heights metro or take the S9 bus…

I hear you. I'm parking at 16 and P, then taking the S buses up.

Charging for the shuttle is a low class move. But hey people need it. It would cost me the same amount maybe a bit more to Uber or Lyft from there, I’d rather have a guaranteed ride with other tennis fans, oh it’s round trip, so it is substantially less than an Uber. $6 one way after Seat Geek fees.

I enjoyed. I’ve always been an outer courts guy as I like to see the spin and pace of the ball. Court level for $30 you really can’t beat it. I do think it’s kind of sad when you watch on television the stands appear empty. Mubadala might do good by lowering the price for us plebians. One of my hitting buddies bit the bullet a few years ago and bought a box. Yeah, good times, too 10 but is it worth it? Meh. Anyways humid hot DC weather but no rain for me, can’t complain. I always get a kick out of the adult “ball kids”. Saw one my build, over 6’ 220 lbs take a terrible tumble. Ouch. Leave it for the 12 year olds I say. Hope it was worth the “free”’sneakers and tennis shorts.

I got box seat yesterday, someone couldn't go and gave me the ticket, to see the match between Shapo and RBA. Parking was a nightmare so my wife dropped me off and picked me up. The tournament is definitely not getting better.

The funny thing is that the ball boys/girls had to bring towels to RBA and Shapo in between points. I was surprised by that because I thought they don't do that anymore but I guess I was wrong :)

I've notice in last week or two it's been happening. let the players get heir own nasty towels.

lol. Post Wimbledon they’ve allowed players to request ball kids bring their towels to them. I agree, but the argument is it takes too long to walk to the side of the court, towel off and walk back. I can see that argument in the DC temps of 95*F.

I was there when McDonald asked the chair umpire if he could have a ballperson get his towel. He was receiving and I guess he was reminded to play at the server's pace.

If ball kids are to required to bring towels to
players they should do so with butterfly nets. Nothing nastier than having a sweaty towel flung at you and droplets flying all over you like your a second rate citizen, well almost nothing.

Agreed...

I watched the Cobolli/Davidovich match today under 100 degree heat index (brutal), under the sun, I might add, and ball kids brought towel to Davidovich in between points on his service game. I saw the same thing with Shapo/RBA match.
