Another fabled Hubert Hurkacz vs. Ugo Humbert match is looking hunlikely. They're in the same half, but Hubie would have to get by Machac, Dimitrov, and Medvedev, while Ugie would need to beat Nakashima, Alcaraz, and probably Paul. Humbug!

Potential path;
Shelton
Rune
Fritz
Zverev
Alcaraz

Sinner since he is number 1 in the world always lucky in the draws. :)

He had a surprising amount of bad draws this year which seemed easier in hindsight after early losses of key seeds.

Shelton or FAA is a dangerous first match even if Bercy shouldn’t be the fastest…

Rune also going deep in Basel.

Mensik who after losing yesterday against De Minaur in Vienna in a tight match today already has to play the qualifiers to enter the main-drew against Lajovic. It reminds me of Musetti that after losing the final in Umag against Cerundolo, the next day he was already busy playing the first round of the Olympic tournament against Monfils.

Absurd calendar.

Heroic Mensik beats Lajovic 6-4 in the third set.
In the meantime FAA has declared a forfeit, so Shelton will face a lucky loser in the first round.

After losing the first set in the tiebreak with Moutet, Mensik abandoned due to retirement. I repeat crazy schedule.

While as an Italian I am pleased to note that both Sonego and Fognini entered the main draw.

First round matches to watch

1. Nakashima v Humbert
2. Popyrin v Berrettini
3. Draper v Leheck
4. Sonego v Jarry
5. Shanghai v Giron

Rinderknech takes out Machac in straights

Correction: Machac actually won the first set but retired in the second

Humbert was ripping his forehand in the first set and most of the second, but patience paid off for Nakashima.

I don't know if it's already been said, but nothing beats Bercy for the camera angles.
Centre court looks like a pickleball court with these camera lenses / positions o_O
And the difference with court no 2 is night and day : over there the angle and camera really shows how fast the players have to move and how hard they hit
crazy stuff

Cobolli withdraws from Bercy due to the after-effects of the shoulder problem in the match in Vienna against De Minaur. At this point, if before the chances of him being called up for the Davis finals were very low, now they are nil. Captain Volandri already has 5 mandatory call-ups ready.

The court looks absolutely terrible this year something is really off with the paint they used, the lighting or both. Very distracting to see all the scratch marks and it only just started. Look at the difference between first round this year and last years final.

GMP looking a bit tired against Tiafoe after his brilliant run in Basel. Trying to book his first stay at WATLYNM.

Probably wont work against the top guys...
Top players have a solid return game, but he's still serving like a monster. I imagine that he'll keep improving. Thing is that he's not a servebot. He has good touch and can play from the baseline as well. We'll see what he can do in the future.

Rune takes the first against Arnaldi. Not a good match for both of them.. a lot of balls dumped into the net, weird... it's almost like they are playing with wet balls.
Serve speeds are also unusually low.. but that could be just the radar setup.

French crowds are large and crazy. Mannarino/Paul match was good. Manny playing well and Tommy with his B game. I think Paul wanted to gift one to the Old Frenchman in front of the home crowd.

Good grace how few guys are following the matches, seems like some are more interested in Sinner's withdrawal.

Frances had his chances, but GMP wiped them all away with some excellent passing shots.

'The French guy' Tiafoe is sadly not among the best returners and the court seems quite fast. French GMP taking out the North-Americans with a very North-American approach to tennis.

Heh, heh, with Jannik withdrawing, most of his potential opponents will probably have breathed a sigh of relief! 3 other compatriots bowed out : Arnaldi to Rune / Berrettini to Popyrin / Musetti (seeded 12) to Struff.

Other seeds that fell : Mpetshi-Pericard beat Tiafoe 14, Cerundolo beat Rublev 6, Michelson beat Hurkacz 12.

Watching Shelton/Moutet - BS will serve for the 1st set, up 5-3.

No, GMP uses his backhand more effectively than the average North-American.

I love Paris in the fall!

All year long the top dogs dominate, which is to be expected, but a good upset adds some fun. Paris always brings some surprises. Maybe Popyrin will have another deep run.
