Time has rolled around again for the Olympic Games. Should be a good one.

Will be played back in Paris at Roland Garros on the clay with Olympic Gold on the line along with a silver and bronze.

Tournament seeds are:
Swiatek, Gauff, Rybakina, Paolini, Pegula, Zheng, Sakkari, Collins, Krejcikova, Ostapenko, Navarro, Kostyuk, Vekic, Haddad Maia, Shnaider, Fernandez.

The grand slam wildcards have gone to Naomi Osaka and Caroline Wozniacki.

Draw and schedule hasn't come out yet but will update when they do and will do the same with the poll :)

Just when you couldn't believe that Iga had both Rybakina and Ostapenko in her half with the chance to face them both... One of them pulls out. Ryba gives Jannik a run for his money in the health department.

Polls up.

Went boring and went with the top 9 seeds cause they seemed the best options. Thought of ditching Sakkari for Navarro or Shnaider or Osaka or Svitolina but stuck with the basics.

Feel free to vote other which is the 10th option, but post who you think ;)

There are some banana peels for Iga but because this is Roland Garros I can still see her steamrolling everyone. I'd be interested to see Shnaider facing Iga in the third round though.

Gauff has an easy draw, but that's nothing new, she had those all year.

I have a few considerations:

- Swiatek is the overwhelming favourite in theory due to her dominance at the RG venue and on clay in general.
- A few players should in theory play their best ever tennis playing for their country at an Olympic Games - it can just happen like Puig did. I feel like this atmosphere would suit Danielle Collins.
- Krejcikova just won Wimbledon and she's won RG before and she's beaten Swiatek a few times. She is in the lower half of the draw though so no guarantees they'll even meet.

Based on this I've gone for Krejcikova just because I feel with all the pressures of playing the Olympics weird things can happen and surprise losses. I hope it's Swiatek v Krejcikova in the final just because it intrigues me the most right now. Bronze medal match I'd like to see Gauff v Zheng or Osaka.

Is Swiatek the biggest favourite for a big tournament ever? Currently 1.44 where I'm looking with Gauff (who she is 11-1 against with all those wins in straight sets) next at 6.00 and a long way down to Osaka and Paolini both at 19.00

Krejcikova being $29 is insane considering she just won Wimbledon and is a former French Open champ at the exact location the Olympics is being played. I’ve put a cheeky $10 on her. I still think Swiatek has it easy but.

They have Mirra Andreeva and Osaka at better odds which is bizarre to me?

Iga and Begu exchanged breaks early but it's on serve 2-1.

Paolini getting smoked, already down double break 4-1 to Bogdan.

Swiatek takes the first set 6-2.

Paolini fighting back against Bogdan. Almost took the set after being a double break down and had set point but it's on serve currently, she's up 6-5.

Swiatek and Paolini our first two winners of the Paris Olympics. Straight set victories for both.
Really want some big clashes at this event, would be so interesting to see if playing for their country could take someone to the next level.

so no Swiatek match on Peacock for me after signing up

we'll see if Novak shows up and Spanish doubles later

Swiatek was 3-5 down second set but dug herself out of it.

Not holding out much hope for Boulter with it being clay. Raducanu might have a better chance in Washington (starts against Mertens).

I was able to watch Swiatek and Novak on Peacock. Had to keep scrolling to get to it though(past outer courts etc). Both matches are now in the replay section.

thanks Moose, maybe I didn't work hard enough to find Iga, though it should have been on the one titled with her name

I had no problem with Novak and Carlos

I saw a few games. Naomi was playing like shiet.
At 30-30 in the last game, she had Kerber on the run and misplayed the point.
To finish it off she missed a volley that McEnroe could have made blindfolded. :(

So much for those who thought Osaka is anywhere near Swiatek's level on clay just because she once took her to a third set.
And who used that to discredit Swiatek's status as the best player in the world.

The rubber meets the road tomorrow for Ajla against Coco.
Ajla's been on a high with her current results, but she'll truly be tested with this one.

Never mind level/shmevel.
Osaka blew that match. It was hers for the taking.

Yes, but the "taking" is not a minor detail, it's what actually matters. And what makes the difference, if we're to believe what Federer himself said about the importance of playing the important points at your highest level.

I don't disagree about that. But it's still saying that Naomi was to blame for losing. That's a big thing.
The point I was making is that Naomi's level that match was higher than Iga's. Is it/could it be higher most of the time?
Who knows.

Yes. And despite what Osaka said jokingly at the FO, that she had now mastered clay and would have a hard time relearning hard court play, she's still not top class on clay and grass.

Proud moment for Coco (y)
Cool for her, but those outfits were just horrible. Mom jeans? What are they doing?

If I didn't get Peacock to watch The Tour De France, I'm definitely not getting it for some sub-par tennis.

Ana Bogden is a goddamn beautiful woman.
Agreed. Just gorgeous, and a proper woman.

Considering how Osaka fumbled at her home Olympics and mediocre she is on clay, I was surprised the odds had her as like 4th favourite for the title lol.

Well done to Kerber who is in her farewell tournament here.
