Djokovic showed mercy on Nadal in the 1st set. Should have been 6-0, and then went on a walkabout from 4-1 up in the 2nd set. Could have been a complete blowout if he kept his foot to the metal.

Amazing that after that match it's you who comes away dissatisfied. Says it all really

Happy for Novak but he will need to cut doen these lapses in concentration if he has any shot of reaching final let alone a chance at Gold medal.

Thing is i am not sure he can, virtually every ATG in any sport starts to have them and it usually always signifies the beginning of the end. That is not to say he won't grab another title here or there or even possibly one last GS but his days of ruling the roost are definitely gone.

As for Rafa he fought bravely to the end, however, today just confirms what i already thought, he doesn't have another GS in him not even at RG 2025 should he still be playing.

Great fight from Rafa, typical warrior never give up mindset, was down 4-0 when I checked the score and 20 mins later was saving break points! Incredible attitude, wish I had 20% of that spirit in my daily life. Bit anticlimactic if this is indeed their last meeting and Novak while winning as mouse expected needs to stop having those mid match self inflicted wounds to have a shot against Zed and Raz.

Pretty poor match all in all.. Djokovic was average at best and Nadal was well below average at best.

Not even in the slightest did it look like a match between 2 potential medalists.

A good match. Congrats Djokovic. Onto round 3 now.

Nadal - maybe the end of road. Did all he could to make a match of it. But it was too little too late perhaps.

Face it, he just isn't good enough to do that to #160 ranked 38 year old Nadal who's barely played in 2 years...

Wonder if that was Rafa's last singles match on Philippe-Chatrier? Seems poignant to go down in straight sets after so many victories there but at least he went down fighting.

Rafa begin to play some respectable stuff when he has nothing to lose. In general he looks so slow .This isn't criticism this is what it is.i don't see any big title left in him.He looks 3 or 4 years older than Djoko in tennis terms and that is huge in sports.

They have a good chance to medal in doubles. However you can't really go guns blazing in doubles. Alcaraz looked quite green in their opener although Argentina was a great team and that was a strong win. Alcaraz will need to be better this week.
Los Argentinos are 6th ranking wise which is very good for test for a first match. Alcaraz did pretty good considering that doubles is not yet a strength. But you can see that he is very agile and reaction time is there. He just need to click to the format

It looks like Bull is moving in mud these days. Concrete feet. So slow. No more explosiveness or quick change of direction. Very sad.

Djokovic played well, but lost the plot for a while after he tried to bully Nadal’s FH when he was serving at 4-1. He kept hitting inside-out FHs to Nadal’s FH corner on one long point even though the DTL winner was wide open as if he wanted to make Nadal miss a FH - instead Nadal won the point, pumped himself up and got his mojo back for 3 more games. In contrast, Djokovic pounded Nadal’s BH as soon as he could otherwise in the match. Djokovic settled down though at 4-4 to end further drama, but he is prone to too many of these mental walkabouts these days - sign of age?

Except for that brief stretch when his testosterone was pumping, Nadal couldn’t get to the ball in time to be offensive from the baseline as Djokovic was hitting superbly on the rise and taking his time away. Nadal‘s serve has also become too weak and it seems like he is in danger of getting broken in every game irrespective of who he plays.
