2024 Speeds released

Paul Espie, pro stringer from Dubai, posted a story today saying he's really impressed by the new Speed MP, considering a full-switch to it. I see it has a higher swingweight than the previous one, which I thought could be a great platfrom racket for baseliners.

In my opinion the swingweight is too high and the next lighter one the MP-L too light at 280 grams unstrung.

I've already talked negatively about the soft-touch/rubbery/"velvet" paint-finish.

Just wrapped up a demo of the 24 Pro and MP. Best bet to switch from v7 Blade. Didn’t think I would like the MP as much as I did. It was a smidge buzzy compared to the Pro that just thumped balls.

Tried the pro last week, it felt pretty good. I do feel it is a tad softer than the previous version which I own.

Feel was over all soft, not overly muted. People’s opinion might differ though.

Higher SW makes sense from a marketing perspective assuming they are pushing Sinner as the new Speed ambassador. I'm surprised by the move since usually I view the SMP as an everyman's frame, but if they want to push the idea that you can play like Sinner with the SMP, this makes a lot of sense to me.

Tried it for the past month against 1.0 Speed Pros. Softer and more damp. Did not like it as much with my normal gut/Alu power, felt too damp. Felt better with gut/rpm. Although I’m not a fan of the velvet paint I did not notice it after a couple minutes. Good frame but gives me less feel and feedback than my 1.0 frames.

I have no experience with any other version of the Speed line. My everyday racquet is v7 Blade 98 18x20 and I am looking for a switch. Been tempted by a few other racquets but I had a short demo with the MP and Pro and wow! I liked different aspects of both. Of course, the Pro felt like home. But I have been looking for a whippier, stable racquet. The MP hit the ball out of the park. Not perfect by any means, just a nice hit with the ball literally spinning into corners leaving my partner dumbstruck.

Yeah it was disappointing when they made the swingweight higher on the Pro. Might as well use the head gravity pro (SW is almost the same) if you can handle it for a long period of time because it’s a better racquet overall (thinner beam, more control).

I see that the SW on the Speed MP is 330. That’s the highest stock SW I’ve seen on a 16x19 speed MP.
