This is exhausting. Credit to Nadal at this stage of his career still putting in the work.
It is going to be very interesting to see if more matches give him more confidence and restore some of the ease we have come to expect from him in the past.

Nadal has to play again tomorrow and again on Sunday if he is to win this title, and he is going 4 plus hours today at 38 years of age. Brutal. He's still fighting though.
Brutal on his body. However, if he comes out unscathed it could help with his fitness and prove he can still play long matches. We will have to see.

Ah man this has been another just super painful match to watch in terms of how Nadal moves to the ball and all the errors that we aren’t use to seeing come off his racquet time is undefeated. Hopefully he can get this win here oh my gosh brutal watching

Man, 2 break backs by Navone to square up, but broken again. Raffers to serve it out? Or not?
Edit- yah man, long match, gets it done.

That's one of the worst matches I have ever seen Rafa play. It seemed like he just could not hit through the court for winners. He hit so many midcourt balls. He persevered with moonball tactics. It's a testament to his sheer will that he won today.

Yeah, he was terrible. I always felt that 2021 clay season was the worst I've seen him on clay, followed closely by 2015... today his level was a shell of that.

Ah well, a win nonetheless, should at least give him some confidence that he can still compete out there for that long.

I don’t know if these type of matches these days help or hinder him with match fitness and reps as his recovery abilities aren’t what they use to be. I have no idea about the next opponent and how he will stack up against him it’s no where near what we are all use to expect from Rafa would love to see him lift another trophy but regardless nice to see our boy competing and going out on his own terms

I'm sure either way he didn't want to be out there for four hours. That was trench warfare.
