Great week from Nishikori regardless of the tough loss, hopefully his body is feeling good - can imagine he must be devastated losing like that at home

I am impressed by his level and demeanor and composure compared to the next gen finals. He has really matured
Same for me and he's only 20 years old, already won 2 titles and was in the top 20 earlier this year. I hope he stays on this track and keeps improving because he has serious potential.

The dirty tricks of Rune (see beginning of second set) continue to amaze me. Really disgusting, ATP unworthy

Rune smashed the racket after losing a very tight TB
I just watched the replay of the TBs, and he was up a mini-break 3 or 4 times, and really flubbed some stuff. He got unlucky with a netcord, but was lucky earlier with a bad call that would have lost him the set anyway.

Fils has a hard time putting away volleys when it matters though, he missed a lot of those.

Agree that Fils has problems closing out sets and matches. He needs a bit more lockdown mode in these phases of matches and his forecourt play is sometimes too wild and punchcy. But that can be taught and mastered. His power and explosiveness is very impressive

All French final in Tokyo today for the 1st time in the tournament's history: Fils v Humbert.

Will Fils be fit enough after the cramping bouts he endured in his semi with Rune?
I believe Humbert has won all the ATP finals (6 ?) he has played in, very impressive

Oops .. Fils twice DF and loses serve. Grabs his hamstring ?
edit : he seems okay

Fils cramping, and Humbert is redirecting the ball really well. Fils gets out of a love-40 hole, but I don't see how he can win this match if he's already spent.

we are going 3 ! really entertaining match on our hands. The way Fils saved the matchpoint was ... special
I'll say it again : I am really impressed with Fils' demeanor, big difference compared to 1 year ago. If he keeps improving he is high top 10 material for sure

Humbert's serve out wide in the ad court is obscene. I was surprised to see Fils take the second, but to see him still competitive in the third is shocking. That passing shot on MP was great. Humbert not quite as sharp as he was earlier in the match with some errors creeping into his game, but he's still playing pretty well.

What an insane tournament for Arthur! He thrives in these type of matches.
Tough loss for Ugo but I am sure he'll bounce back soon enough, he played great as well.
Now, it would be neat if these two could start going deeper in 1000s and slams as well. Two exciting offensive players. ;)
ALLEZ!

Fils wins his 3rd ATP title and 2nd at ATP500 level (also won Hamburg in July). He becomes the 2nd Frenchman to win the title in Tokyo (after Tsonga, 2009).

It was a great match full of surprising twists and turns. Fils had to save a match point in the 2nd set tie-break and, at times, seemed to be physically spent. He completed an amazing turnaround to take it in the deciding set!

For Humbert, it was a heartbreakingly narrow defeat and his 1st loss in an ATP final after 6 straight victories.

What was heartwarming was to see what close friends they are but it didn't stop them being fiercely competitive and doing their best to win!

Nice win by Fils. Didn't see that coming. The big thing for 2025 will be if he can make a breakout at a Slam. Not necessarily win it or even make the final. But beat a good player, and make a QF run or something. Wimbledon 2024 4th round, beating Hurkacz long the way, was something, but it's his lone good Slam result.
