Her brain isn't even a problem imo. She's going out there to hit as hard as she can on every ball, no matter what. It's a planned strategy. When she starts spraying it's not because of mental weakness, it's just the odds evening back out. She's happy to live and die with that strategy, as crazy as it seems.
This is basically what Serena did all the time to quite a great success. I was rewatching some of her matches recently and her lack of variety is really astonishing. But the power is incredible.

Money loss. The us open is losing a lot of money this year. Far less people showing up and ratings are down HUGE this year and overpriced tickets
Fake news. U.S. Open attendance is higher than ever with over a million people attending over the 2 weeks, a record.

Yesss Aryna Sabalenka! Join 3 slams club.

Out of current active player, Sabalenka is the player that has biggest chance at career slam.
That's true and even then I'd give her very little chance as she's so prone to self combustion. I feel like Swiatek may be becoming more uncomfortable at hard court majors than a few years ago. It seems that way anyway, and she just hadn't found a way on grass. Sabalenka is a top favourite at all majors even though it's Swiatek who is #1.

I'm not sure yet. Azarenka leads her in every other category just one less slam.

Vika has more titles, more 1000 titles, more time at #1, Olympic bronze. Also Vika had to face peak Serena. But it's close and Sabalenka is not done.
I think Azarenka is still above, she just less slam because of Serena. But like you said that Sabalenka isn't done, if she does three peat at AO then she will be above

She kind of just got it taken to her that day, Pegula has reached a point where she’s better than Iga on medium to fast hard courts. Not really a mental thing

Did you see the match? I don’t think pegula did anything special. She just waited for Swiatek to self destruct. Swiatek showed no variety just spraying UEs left and right.

Should have been a 3-set match but Sab stepped up and broke Jess at the most opportune time. Congrats Sab!

I mean, it's a completely arbitrary thing :D she won them back to back like 3 different times.
I know, just like the Calendar Slam vs non-Calendar Slam and many other stats. Only looked back on it since that was already mentioned for Sabalenka now and Kerber from few years ago.

On the other hand, if you win all 4 GS tournaments in a row but not within the same year, it doesn't count as a Gran Slam.

Sabalenka only lost once at the slams this year.

Won the Aus Open
QF loss at the French
Missed Wimbledon with injury
Wins the US Open

IIRC she was in all 4 slam semis last year and maybe even the year before too, Sabalenka is always a slam contender no matter what
Her streak started at USO 2022 right after they banned her from Wimbledon. Andreeva the only one to stop her before a semifinal since.

Have to imagine Aryna is #1 this time next year. Iga defends a million clay points plus her IW and Doha titles. Yes Aryna defends AO, but she doesn’t defend any Wimbledon points, will be the favorite for every HC title, and probably the #2 favorite for all clay titles

And every loss has been a bit of a choke from a set up.

She led Andreeva by a set at the French this year, led Gauff by a set in last years USO final, led by a set over Jabeur at Wimbledon, led a set and break over Muchova at the French last year. Led by a set over Swiatek in the 2022 US Open.

Hell, even the other slam losses in 2022 she led by a set. At the French against Giorgi. At the Aus Open against Kanepi.

2021 USO she played a brutal 3 setter against Fernandez. Wimbledon in 21 she led a set over Pliskova before losing in the SF.

She hasn't had a straight set slam loss since Azarenka at the 2020 US Open.

Sabalenka did it! She is the U.S. Open's 2024 Ladies' Champion!! She is now the winner of three majors, and as always, here's the WTA list of majors winners since 2010:

Schiavone: FO - 2010

Clijsters: USO 2010 & AO 2011

Li Na: FO 2011 & AO 2014

Kvitova: Wimbledon 2011 & 2014

Stosur: USO 2011

Sharapova: FO 2012 & FO 2014

Azarenka: AO 2012 & 2013

Bartoli: Wimbledon 2013

Pennetta: USO 2015

Kerber: AO 2016, USO 2016 & Wimbledon 2018

Muguruza: FO 2016 & Wimbledon 2017

Ostapenko: FO 2017

Stephens: USO 2017

Wozniacki: AO 2018

Osaka: USO 2018, 2020 & AO 2019 and 2021

Barty: FO 2019, Wimbledon 2021 & A0 2022

Halep: FO 2018 & Wimbledon 2019

Andreescu: 2019 USO

Kenin: AO 2020

Krejčíková: FO 2021, Wimbledon 2024

Raducanu: USO 2021

Świątek: FO 2020 & 2022, 2023, 2024 & USO 2022

Rybakina: Wimbledon 2022

Vondroušová: Wimbledon 2023

Gauff: USO 2023

Sabalenka: AO 2023, 2024 & USO 2024

Pegula threw everything she had at Sabalenka, but she was no match, lacking any serious Plan B to at least serve as a speed-bump to Sabalenka, when the latter pulled from her well of experience. I could not be more pleased with the ladies' side of the USO finals results!

Sabalenka is definitely not the top favourite at Roland Garros compared to a 4-time winner there.

I was the only one who thought Pegula will win in 2 :-D

I mean, I like the enthusiasm, and I had Peggy taking one but losing in three close sets, but Sabi is just too much serve power and doesn't allow players to get breaks in often.

She actually can do it this year, Iga only leads her 409 points on the race (Iga 8285, Sabalenka 7876).

Isn't your list missing a certain player?

Congrats to Pegula for scrapping once again against the best hardcourt player in the game by a wide margin. Pegula never gave up.

And congrats to Sabalenka for holding her nerves this time around. She was right when she said she learned a lesson from last year’s collapse.

That said, Sabalenka has now been in all 4 of the hard court finals played in the last 2 years while bagging 3 titles. That is truly amazing.

While true now, the exact definition of a Grand Slam was unclear as late as 1984 when Navratilova won 4 non-calendar-year slams in a row (on her way to 6 in a row) and the ITF declared her a winner of the Grand Slam and awarded her a $1 million bonus for it.

This 1984 Washington Post article on her 4th slam win-in-a-row even acts as if her winning the Grand Slam was completed.

While I would like to agree with your assessment, I feel the French Open may be the biggest hurdle for her. Not an impossibility, mind you, but rough going, and that has absolutely nothing to do with the presence of the current title holder at the FO.

Swiatek is becoming a bit of a washout on hardcourts, as evidenced by her results at this years' AO and USO. For such a celebrated player who seemingly can win it all (according to her loudest cheerleaders, in any case), her hardcourt majors results this year were incredibly underwhelming. Looking back, she was the 2022 USO winner, yet as the defending champion, she was booted in the 4th round of the 2023 event, while she barely scraped up to reach the quarters this year, but had nothing to offer which would suggest she was heading to another final. At the AO, she made the semis in 2022, but has spiraled ever since, with a 4th round exit in 2023, followed by a 3rd round exit in 2024. Swiatek and her team seem to lack answers for her hardcourt woes.

On grass, I do not see Swiatek racking up a number of those title, either, as she does not appear to have any sense for playing that event, being fairly weak in her attempts and early exits (save for one quarterfinal finish in 2023).
