Stosur in the players box for Priscilla Hon. I love the work Sam does with the Aussie women on tour. We've had a great run even with Barty bowing out.

8 Aussies into the main draw:

Saville in off her ranking.
Preston with a wildcard.
Aiava qualified.
Rodionova - qualified.
Kim Birrell - qualified.
Maddy Joint also qualified (and won her 1R against Siegemund).
Tomljanovic in with her PR (won against Li)
And then Hon here who also qualified and is facing Sabalenka.

She is just a millionaire playing part time tennis. She mentioned long ago that she wants to have a life and play tennis in the same time. I don’t blame her to be honest. I would have probably done the same.
That has nothing to do with the persistently observed loss of focus during matches except strengthen my point by indicating she views tennis more like work.

Sloane is such an unserious person.
Obviously; during her original climb to success, she was sold as the "anti-Serena" (gee...I wonder why), and she appeared to eat that up, along with loving grinning for the cameras / talking about her social life. Now that she's spent several years crashing back down to earth (and there's no Serena to contrast herself against), she's in career freefall. No matter what she does on court, it barely leaves a ripple.

She actually said that. She’s not very committed and doesn’t seem to enjoy it that much. As you said, for her it’s work.

Azarenka who wins the Sunshine double and looks set to dominate the tour and then got pregnant with Leo! :X3:
What happened there with azarenka and osaka - did one just happen to slip past the goalie, or did they just decide to have a kid in the middle of their peak career?

Sloane played great in the first set. But as we have seen for a few tears now, once the opponent starts challenging her, sloane be ones passive. From there her game unravels. Surprising she and her team haven't fixed it. She does have the movement and the talent to be in the top 10.

Sabalenka gets it done 3 and 3.

Hon fought hard, won more games than I thought she would.

Sabs gets Bronzetti next
Just got back from the match. Hon defended pretty well at times, and her backhand slice is quite nice, but she was basically just holding on for dear life and hoping Sabalenka would miss.

And Sabs was absolutely crushing returns of serve at certain points. Was impressive to see.

I am still flabbergasted this happend tonight. She was in full control when I left watching the match at my Dad's and then I saw this on FB. How the hell??

A few interesting Mixed doubles pairings in the draw:

Townsend playing with Donald Young (who I thought was retired)
Krejcikova partnering Matt Ebden as the 4th seeds.
16 year old Iva Kovic playing with some American i've never heard of.
Yastremska partners Purcell. These 2 have played together at a few events, are they a couple?
Siniakova with Peers.
Power couple Badosa plays with her boyfriend Tsitsipas.
Mattek-Sands and Murray again.

One slam wonder. There’s a lot of those. Her GS results have been mediocre for the last idk how many years

Muchova through in straights! Happy for her. Strong performance, and recovered nicely in the second after giving up the break lead that she had. As reward she gets the winner of Ostapenko/Osaka. No rest for the gifted.

Kudos to Raki for keeping Iga out on court for as long as she did!
Winning 10 games, breaking her serve when she was serving for the match and taking her to a tie-break that included 3 set points is very respectable indeed for someone without any big weapons.
Well done!

It is truly horrible that Penko and Osaka were drawn against each other in round 1 (there have been a few of these) and if Naomi picks today to find herself again... I mean, it'd be good for the game, but I will be sad. Looking good right now.

Tennis-wise.

Osaka's looking good with a ridiculous 3 unforced errors so far in the entire match. Ostapenko though is not playing her best and is crumbling fast. Meanwhile, cute Andreeva fails to serve out the match against cute Osorio and it's 5-5, deuce in the second.
