This deserves a poll. Yes, Jannik Sinner is the world number #1 for a reason. Yes, he is the heavy favorite. And yes, he won their last match fairly handily.

However, Tommy Paul does have one win over Sinner and is having a pretty good year himself. Even if you think he doesn't stand a chance at winning the match, how it goes down could have a big impact on the quarterfinals.

Remember, only one of these guys is an Olympic medalist ;)

Thrilled to see every single vote so far is for Paul lol. It’s wishful thinking but it would make not being able to watch the rest of the us open worth it. (I have AT&T and their ESPN contract expired and apparently it could be days or weeks until they renegotiate a new one)

H2H is 2-1 for Sinner, with 3 matches on 3 different surfaces: Sinner won a three setter in Madrid on clay in 2022, Paul won a three setter in Eastbourne on grass in 2022, and Sinner won a straight setter in Canada on hard courts in 2023. Should be a fun match before a raucous Labor Day crowd.

No surprise that Paul got that single narrow win on grass against 2022 Sinner which had a underwhelming record on that strange surface. Tommy is surprisingly high on the overall Elo and yearly Elo ranking, although the gap to Jannik is bigger on hard court. An almost European American. Now he is in his prime, doing very well indeed in 2024.

Well, well, well...

Even though I've seen Paul play at a very high level on 1st set before and just can't keep the same level.
