Tiafoe can only play good at USO with the crowd roaring him on. Besides a fluky run to a QF in AO 2019, he hasn't done anything noteworthy at the other 3 majors. Expect his ranking to drop in the first-second quarter of next year until the US swing comes around

And yet somehow, that still makes him more consistent than just about everyone ranked lower than Rublev.

Consistent at what? He was almost ranked outside the top 30 after Wimby and then made up some points in these US events

Players "ranked below Rublev" like Tsitsipas and Ruud have both made it to major finals on two different surfaces, something Tiafoe's never done

Wow Pops losing to Big Foe! I thought he would carry the Novak win deeper with momentum behind him. Disappointing for him, such a great chance to progress to week 2…same thing happened for Botic after the Raz match. Is it a case of too much taken out to win such high stakes/high profile matches that there’s nothing left mentally!? I certainly expected him to handle Big Foe. @Hitman did Foe play really well or did Pops just didn’t bring it yday?

Great win for Big Foe. He’s had a good run at us open before so it is no surprise.

Zverev is needed to keep USO interesting, tennis needs Zverev in the USO final. His shot at redemption. He's the guy IMO who deserves the title the most, even if he is not the fav to win it.
For whom exactly?
US needs an American in the final.
I want an American and anyone but Z :D

Zverev is much better than any American. He can at least make the final more competitive.
Yeah but the chainz man (Grandma thinks they are weird), the I want to rant and hit out at things (but I did that and they punished me heavily, so I'd better not), the choking at any moment, the 2nd serve history (largely controlled now, but in a GS final...?).

The prospect of Fritz v Tiafoe to make a USO Final is surprisingly appealing to me. I'd love Dimitrov in the final but drama wise I feel that SF with a US crowd split on who to cheer for and 2 guys who may never make another major final is quite the prospect.

Zverev is the favourite to make the final on paper but playing 2 more US players especially in the name of Fritz and Big Foe could be a lot to handle even for someone of his experience.

Big Foe v Dimitrov is hard to call now. I’m leaning towards the American here. I think Zverev will beat Fritz this time too.

When two chokers meet, one has to win. Hoping for Grigorgeous - feels like he "deserves" a chance - but Foe is playing well and is done with losing to clowns, and I fear Grigor might be in that category.

Zed and Med look good. Carrot juice is #1, but his form is unknown. I don't think Fritz has a chance if yesterday's level was representative.

Neither of the destroyers of Alcaraz and Djokovic made it into the next round. Does this mean neither played as well this time round or were Alcaraz and Djokovic just unexpectedly bad opponents???

Tiafoe played significantly better than Djokovic, I don't know that there was a massive difference between Popyrin's levels. Botic was a disaster against Draper though. At one point he hit 5 double faults in a row.

Foe won 20 games, Pop 19. It was fairly close. Foe won the right points.

Tiafoe shows up consistently at the US Open. You never know what you're going to get from Tsitsipas.

True, but Soderling was actually pretty darn good. He did beat both Federer and Nadal at a major.

There's probably 8 players who can say they've done that? Djokovic, Hewitt, Wawrinka, Murray, del Potro, Tsonga, Berdych, Soderling...am I missing anyone?

Hewitt should not be on that list.

Impressive first set from Jack Draper. The first break was handed to him, but he did well for the second.

It is so hard for me to overcome my hatred for the British media and their unrelenting hype machine to appreciate Draper's game, but he really can play some damn good stuff.:X3:

I doubt many people in the UK have heard of him, only hard core tennis fans.
