All 3 played a massive game, especially Harris was botting every single point in thre match tiebreak and Shelton stayed composed and tough. Many would have lost that.

He clutched them all out.
Harris was ******* unreal man I was there first row watching his level against Michelson. Hands down the greatest serving level I have ever seen in person. Keep an eye out for him, he just cracked the top 100 again but he’s going to keep shooting back up. Tough luck with injuries but good momentum after the Surbiton challenger especially. Shelton did well to escape him

Don't make excuses for him, he doesn't need your excuses.

Lol, what excuses? He or his father choose a tactical approach and it worked until it didn’t.

Blame the execution, not the game plan. Soft balling won’t work either…

Not sure what you meant. Shelton is another product of America s college system aka Isner, Anderson etc. Good players but not gs winning material
Yeah I can explain what I meant. You noted that he was a college player who jumped on the scene. I was talking about his career progression, going from being not really extraordinary as a junior in the 18s division to skyrocketing his level after really focusing across his senior and freshman years. Then he skyrocketed again in the challenger scene. I thought you were making an allowance of that volatile jump and implying that with years on tour he will consolidate some of the finer tuned aspects of the pro game

Tbh as @Razer said US tennis is stuck in 90s and is producing cheap copies of Sampras with no focus on baseline tennis where Europe is leading the way.

Ben Shelton truly is a cheap caricature of Pete's game in the modern era with no creativity, no tolerance but some extra swag or shouting added, a true embarrassment! Pete must be feel upset every time he tunes to watch Shelton on Tv. Ben probably needs Agassi brand of tennis and Agassi as his coach.

Even Pete with 90s racket and strings had better shot tolerance and consistency than this clown has in 2024.

The reason I say the us open because it’s such an anomaly. Only a few players in history have been able to dominate it. Year and year out. Even the HC GOAT Djoker couldn’t dominate the slam. . And the crowd loves Shelton there so if there is a slam to win he can fluke it there. End of year, players are tired. Yea I could see Shelton winning it

Yeah but those anomaly had 100 times better ground game than Shelton. Let's be honest you can't win a gs in this era without a baseline game

I didnt say too much different. He found out he was good particularly in his freshman years with the gators. The game is explosive..but too many holes. That wont be there if from childhood he went through the grinding and shaping up game like u see in current gens sinner, alcaraz, medvedev etc.

Unironically yes. Shelton choked because Sinner has an aura, especially in tiebreaks.
You really are the most irritating poster on this board. Jannik is playing great and deserves his No 1 status but seriously you give his fans a bad name. Try being at least a tiny bit objective maybe? I rather liked Sinner at one time but fans like you are responsible for me going right off him.

What exactly have I said that is wrong?

You won’t care but I’ll say it anyway: I have only rubbished players that show bad behaviour on court. Shelton is one of those players. I have been very fair to other players, and respect them. Especially Carlos.

Sinner is No. 1. This gives him an aura. Shelton is mentally weaker, and he showed it today. Sinner has proven his mental fortitude. I have stated nothing but facts.

Yes, absolutely. Shelton doesn't choke in those situations unless he's facing a mental titan like Sinner.
Ever had to hit a second serve down match point against the world number 1? Heck, ever had to hit a second serve down match point against a 4.5? Unsurprisingly, match point (both down AND UP) is statistically the most common spot for DFs - at all levels. Things feel different in different spots. Anyone who's played even half competitively, knows.

He hung up on Shelton today.

Now, with that, I think Shelton has some potential. He could eventually get to another level if he works at it....like his fight.
Shelton showed some glimpses of good play in that 3rd set. He won a long rally(about 15 shots) vs Sinner on break point to go up a break. And then, he won a 19-shot rally in the tiebreak. Sure, he had some unforced errors. Most people will when playing someone be as good as Sinner. We also need to remember that he got to the semis vs Djoker at the USO and won a set. And Shelton is only 21 years old.

He’s going to be a late bloomer. People forget that he was working in his finance degree until the last couple of years. I am
Curious if he’s still trying to complete that degree. He said that getting a degree is very important to him. Hopefully, he sticks with it. Of course, that likely means that he wouldn’t reach his full potential in tennis if he also focuses on studying for a finance degree.

Frankly his spinny fh was surprisingly effective for the last hour at least. Must have partly the dirt.

Could have more succes in the second week of Wimby than I imagined.
