The fact that Djokovic at his age can come in a couple of weeks after knee surgery and waltz to the QF (possibly the final or even title) is a bit of an indictment of the current state of the tour on grass, isn't it?

I mean, also a testament to his fitness, work ethic, game, for sure. And he did get a fairly kind draw. But also - not a great look for the younger players ...p

It was arthroscopic surgery on a minor meniscus tear. Not something huge.

No
It's inductive that he is the goat

Love Djokovic calling out the jerks in the stands. Sad that Rune is a shadow of what his fans hoped he'd become. He is hardly a measuring stick for Novak's level. I don't think Demon will be, either, but then that's why they play. That match could surprise me, though I doubt it. Go Djoker! Win as many as you can! Someone has to take the crown to end the Inflation Era... I know you won't simply give it to them. Let's see if Sinner or Alcaraz is up to the challenge. They're the only ones I see capable of doing it.

Didn’t watch after the first set, but I take it, things were bad for Djokovic to actually make a thing of it in the post match interview. Much as I don’t like him, I don’t approve of fans constantly booing their favourite’s opponent which is what I understand was going on.

If the crowd spent more time here on TTW, they would realise that cheering Novak instead of booing, would be more likely to have the desired effect of making him play worse. Mugs

Yes, Novak's draw this year is like the Wimbledon folks really needed him to make the final so they could make some money. The other half of the draw is going to come through bloody and tired, and Novak is going to make a final without having played anyone who can make him break a sweat. I guess we'll see if Demon is up for the challenge this time, but my money is on Novak to make the final from this half of the draw. I don't see anything that makes me think the three remaining guys on his side of the draw can hurt him, even if he's operating at 70%.
Really? Which player from the top half of the draw would have made Djokovic sweat? Aside from Alcaraz, that is?

4/5 grass champions this season have been placed on the bottom half (Sinner doesn't count since he must be on the top half):

Draper (Stuttgart) - Bottom half
de Minaur ('s-Hertogenbosch) - Bottom half
Sinner (Halle) - Top half
Paul (Queen's) - Top half
Tabilo (Mallorca) - Bottom half
Fritz (Eastbourne) - Bottom half

Djokovic in the post match interview showing that being the GOAT does not mean he can’t be incredibly petty.

It’s the same thing where Ruud supporters shout his name and it’s mistaken for boos.

Djokovic claimed he was disrespected and saying they can’t touch him. His hunger for respect and validation clearly fuels him, but it’s so absurd for someone of his stature
Yeah he seems so quick to see slights at his expense, and then to take motivation from it. Very adversarial relationship with the world. Maybe that’s what helped propel him past the (seemingly) more intrinsically-motivated Federer and Nadal. Still, makes moments like this post-match interview kind of comical.

@josemorgado

OMG. Djokovic had an *eventful* on court interview. "For all the people that were respectful, a good night. For all the people who tried to disrespect me... a GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOD night". "I know they are cheering from Rune, but that's just an excuse for also boo me."

Djokovic. "I don't accept it. I've been on the tour for more than 20 years. I know all the tricks. It's fine, I focus on the people that have respect and paid the tickets to come and watch (...) I've played in much more hostile environments, trust me. You can't touch me".

I think Novak should tread carefully.

Taunting the crowd and all that is entertaining for viewers but it does not work well for future matches when you are facing formidable rivals, at that time you dont want the crowd really against you. He thrives on crowds booing and going against him but still....

Last time as well in his Sinner match he was showing crying taunts to the crowd and then in the final he made a silly mistake against Alcaraz which cost him that last set and the match.... these things like taunting crowd after match are distractions that stay in mind for the next match as well.... not good.

I liked Novak response, it reminded me of the scene from Equilibrium movie .

Beatles fan has left this site? Wow I've been in contact with Beatles Fan for years, what a sad loss to this forum in my opinion.

The crowd were chanting "ROOOONER ROOOOONER" not booing Djokovic so I don't understand why Djokovic is annoyed.

I do like his heel turn though, thank goodness Djokovic doesn't do this "I want to be loved" fake nonsense anymore.

Wimbledon odds just changed

Novak second favorite ahead of last year's champion alcaraz and slightly behind sinner.

And this is Novak who is still unable to move at 100%

And folks here on ttw make stories about how he is finished. Pathetic.
That sounds right to me. Alcaraz has struggled way too much. Not just that he dropped sets but the way he dropped sets. Humbert especially in the last three sets was just making mincemeat of the Alcaraz serve – very concerning for his prospects moving forward. It's true the Frenchman was playing inspired tennis – Tiafoe as well – but Carlos allows that in a way that Sinner and Djokovic don't because they just slam down so many more unreturnable serves.

I do think Sinner has looked the best overall. He's had his dips but that's just tennis. Novak's not terribly far behind but looks a bit more vulnerable. Although to be honest, I don't see the movement issues everyone else does. He looks fine running around to me.

He looks fine. It's not like AO 23 hobbling.

But not as well as he looked in Wimbledon 23.

The grass is definitely faster this year. All the rain has left it still slick and not worn out
Good news for Sinner and Djoker

He never asked for love of the crowd, just for the respect and fair play during tennis matches. Classless Federer fans really tried to ruin his joy but they were without any result for the Goat race.

You actually think that “Federer fans” buy trickets for Wimbledon to boo Djokovic? You have a lot to learn about the real world. Hint: It’s not the same as an internet forum. Fans st Wimbledon don’t care about all the GOAT fights online. They just want to enjoy themselves and watch some tennis.

I think you're more or less right. It wasn't an easy position to be in for Djokovic, being from Serbia combined
with simply not being a crowd favorite. I won't mention the curious events of ca. 2020 and their consequences.
I'm not a fan of his type of tennis but am an admirer of him as a man.

Wow, Djokovic not missing a chance to show the world he still has the mentality of an 11 year old boy. Seriously, his kids were in the stand, but he still can't resist acting like a classless, clueless, insecure child.

It's also what makes me think he wouldn't hesitate for a second to "dope" if he could get away with it.

Djolovic is a paranoid moron. Nobody was booing him.
Once again, we happen to be in total agreement. Nobody was booing him, and anyone in here that thinks that was the case is as delusional as he is.

There's simply no logic in that claim. If Rune hits a great passing shot and they make the sound, how could that possibly imply booing of Novak? What would they be booing, his lack of ability to volley a shot out of reach? His average approach shot? Just one example, but that's the point...

Um, did you miss the whole "giving you my heart" gesture phase of his career (or whatever you want to call it)? One of the most awkward, cringeworthy and disingenuous phenomenons I have seen in all of sport.

Yes several have said the same. Seems to be a minor procedure and Fritz had something similar couple of years back. Novak mentioned consulting Fritz as well. Some here of course in their miserable existence deny the procedure even happened...so you have kind of both extremes here.

Extremely disappointing performance from Rune, shocking to see him fold like this. I expected him to get into a dog fight and possibly get the W. He seems to have regressed, needs to find a good coach and turn the page. Look for inspiration from Sinner who was erratic and inconsistent and turned it around fast. Rune has time on his side but he needs to make adjustments to his game (FH was atrocious today), his stamina and his psyche if he has to join the other 2 in his age group. Very promising young player who has the desire but can he make these changes to become elite, I believe and hope so.

If Djokovic had taken the setpoint.

6-3 6-3 6-2

Wow is Rune a bum. He can’t even give a broken down geriatric Djokovic a decent match. I bet even now Federer now could throw on his gear and put up a better fight.

Enjoy themselves with booing, fake coughing, applauding between fist and second serve, applauding unforced errors and double faults. Its seems some people dose not know the meaning of fair play.
