Have to start this early because play begins before the two current tourneys end.

When was the last time Doha & Dubai were both 1000/Premier events in the same season?

Draw

56-player field, top 8 get byes. Iga/Coco/Elena lead the way, Aryna is chillin'.

Action gets underway Sunday morning.

Garcia vs Osaka in a rematch of their AO R1 clash. It will be interesting to see if Osaka can win this one. She's not having a great return this far having won 1 match and lost 3 so far if my memory serves correctly. There aren't that many opportunities between now and the clay court season. If she keeps drawing top players in R1/R2 who turn up to get a notable scalp then this could really spiral rapidly.

can we have a poll spy or not worth it lol.

Back-to-back WTA 1000 and before March even begins! Imagine by the end of March we will already go through 4 WTA1000 and 1GS.

Sabalenka seems not interested in taking over the No. 1 rank, but she's still in for Dubai. My preference for Doha is ZQ or CG.

CG? With miss 9-1 in same tournament?

Raducanu is an actual embarassment and fans of hers who still celebrate her US Open need to be forced to watch that set of tennis whenever they celebrate her.

Pathetic player.

A bit over the top with that?

She played a poor first set but at the end of the day she lost to a better player. Give the lass a break.

At the end of the day basically everyone on tour is a better player than Raducanu. Perhaps if she was smart she’d have played the small Transylvania 250 last week for match play instead of Abu Dhabi. Do you think Emma will ever win a title again?

Maybe she will, maybe she won't. If she doesn't, I'm sure she'll live with it. Why the hate though? Just leave her be. We don't need to have an angry inquest every time she loses. She doesn't owe you anything.

I hadn't realised that like Kasatkina, Pliskova is also scheduled to play her 1st round match at Doha today, after winning her title in Cluj yesterday. Playing matches in locations approximately 4,700 km apart in back to back days, is tough scheduling.

Daria had a much shorter journey (c. 600 km vs. c. 4,700 km), but still being scheduled second on the Grandstand 3 court, after the current Fernandez-Samsonova match has finished (with Leylah leading 7-5 *2-0 at the moment), is not exactly a big turnaround time for after her final yesterday. As I said the Abu Dhabi tournament thread, given that this tournament has 8 1st round byes, ideally (if practical), some of them should have been performance based rather than ranking based, and gone towards players like Kasatkina and Pliskova.

Her YouTube channel is great.

I have some stubborn view that just won't leave my head that she will still shine at least on grass. Probably after everybody has lost hope on her second coming she takes even the Wimbledon!:D It would be interesting to see how crazy the Brits would then go!

And how many time has this lost to a better player line going to be used. That is what happens to every bad player, they lose to a better player. After this year she needs to hang it up and maybe join pickle ball with Bouchard. Maybe her body will hold up to that rather than tennis.

She's not in a courtroom. She doesn't have to explain herself to you.

A good fight by Daria in the 2nd set, but no surpise that she didn't much left in the tank immediately following her run at Abu Dhabi last week, at and lost to Pavlyuchenkova.

Naomi said in press she has been working on her return footwork. She struggled to clearly explain it but sounds like she’s copying Novak’s style. It’s nice to hear from her again. She’s so much more open now.

A bagel in 20 minutes is always embarrassing, she doesn't owe me anything but she owes the fans to be a decent player. If she played smart she'd go down to smaller ranked tournaments to build her game up.

Agree with you 100%. The problem, for her perspective is, if she goes to a small tournament, AND LOSES, which she is 100% capable of doing, then it’s many times more embarrassing. So if she goes to a M1000 and loses, at least she’s making an appearance to satisfy her sponsors.

Very fair point. She probably has rules for her sponsorship too and playing at the bigger tournaments probably goes with that. Would think a title or final under her belt would do her wonders and the sponsors could promote that it's her first title/final since the US Open over 2.5 years ago!

I look at someone like Pliskova who won Transylvania last week for her first title in over 4 years and think that will really help her for the next few months. Already got a great hard fought win over Kalinskaya in the 1R in Doha.

Speaking of K Plish, the 2nd quarter is quite open and ripe for the taking.

Sakkari in horrible form, Krejcikova withdrew, Garcia out and Jabeur also in mixed form. Good chance for the unseeded players of: Pliskova, Potapova, Noskova, Osaka or Martic.

Yikes now it’s Fernandez turn to eat a bagel. The 2 ladies from the 2021 US Open final really are hopeless these days..

Hope Leylah can turn this around unlike Emma.

Sakkari needs to take a break or find a new coach. She's got zero confidence and emotionally implodes when she gets down.
