What was Seles or Hingis average topspin rate? 1500 rpm? 1800 at best? Świątek averages closer to 3000 with as much if not more speed. On clay this is massive. The speed plus topspin rate would absolutely bludgeon Graf's backhand on clay.Ha, what? You think Swiatek's forehand would really bother Steffi (on either of her wings)? Dude, Swiatek hits a nice, modern, "ATP style" forehand, but it's not THAT amazing. Especially because she doesn't have amazing control with it. If Steffi could deal with greats like Seles and Hingis hitting hard AND accurate, she would have no issues with Swiatek. Heck, a breaking down (physically) Graf even handled young Serena's power without issue. You keep questioning the greatest backhand in the history of the women's game, and I have no idea why.
Did you watch the 1988 RG final? I actually watched it live on a telly. Mum called me for dinner and it was all over by the time I finished the soup. It was an actual GS final - imagine having the ticket for that and if a local boulangerie had a queue you'd missed the whole shebang.Did you not see her semi-final last night? We are talking about a Masters 1000 semi-final, and Kostyuk put out the performance that she did.
When did I say I didn't like her looks? There are other players I think are more attractive, but I never implied Swiatek is unattractive. She's fine. Very pleasant looking. Yes, Graf was a fantastic human specimen. You think that's unhealthy? Well then you have to level that accusation at a LOT of people, because that was the general consensus in her playing days.
I'll give you that - you didn't comment on Świątek's attractiveness but you still don't like the way her face looks because it doesn't fit your mental picture of the way "smart and savvy champion" should look like on the court. She doesn't look smart to you and that's ok but her recognition of her own psychological shortcomings is the actual proof she is smart and savvy enough and is trying her best to utilise what mother nature gave her in athletic abilities.Because she looks like a basket case during every match. Because she looks like she is on the verge of tears at all times, and never like a confident, in-control, smart and savvy champion.
Oh I must've missed that gem about Serena earlier. Were you actually telling people off for bringing up Serena's stats there? So it's not only about Świątek then. This is getting funnier and funnier. Why do you guys keep bringing up Serena? Aside from having one slam more than Graf, she stats are inferior to Steffi's in just about every other conceivable way.
Here's some of us hoping your rosy retrospection bias wears off one day (I noticed you haven't mentioned Pam Shriver this time round - I guess there's a progress).Once the recency bias (remember that) wears off, people will realize that Graf is easily the greatest Woman to ever play, and perhaps the greatest human being.
Why are y'all arguing about the 90s in here, come on now.
I am gonna go for Sakkari today - actually I will be happy with a 3 setter. I usually can't stand her but kind of interested to see how she plays Iga. The idea that she is high-strung and needs a mellow coach makes sense, but I can see how JPeg needs the opposite. Too much mellow with that pairing.
Hope to finish my soup before it endsI want the double bagel.
Always been.Maria is just a bundle of nerves.
Swiatek is the epitome of fake dominance.3-0. I’ll be surprised if we get to 80 minutes today.
Root for a competitive match or else I'm going back to bed until the men's final startsI can't decide who to root for.
Can anyone recommend for whom should I, and why?
I have a keyboard and I know how to type. It’s not difficult. Sorry if you don’t.WOW! Some essay.
Do you ever get to eat or sleep?
Meatloaf is my least favorite thing that my mother makes. He had to catch up on his posting. He was eating, his mom made meatloaf.
78 on the Stadium clock.3-0. I’ll be surprised if we get to 80 minutes today.
5 points in total in 2nd set!Maria fell apart. That dropshot attempt was desperate.
Why the hell is the final at 11 am?! They have all damn day to get both matches in, ain't like anyone has to be in Miami Monday morning.
That’s sad5 points in total in 2nd set!
I had my siesta after Iga won the first set. I missed the donut, just woke up.Root for a competitive match or else I'm going back to bed until the men's final starts
I think this is true. Unlike the Slams and other big-city tournaments, almost the entire crowd for Indian Wells comes to the tournament from other places and so it is often the same people attending the day and night sessions. Even though the night session tickets on Stadium 1 are only for two matches, a lot of the crowd will leave after 1 or 1.5 sets if the second match is one-sided or lacks stars. Many in the crowd probably watched the day session also and so it can be a long day of tennis by 9pm especially as it can be a hot 90 degrees in the day with many courts lacking any shade and a cold 50 degrees at night with wind making it feel colder.I really think they love their day tennis there more than other tournaments....even their night sessions start at 6....an older audience out there too?..
