I think a win here would have put Sabalenka on par with some of the modern day womens AO Co-GOATs - Hingis, Serena, Graf, Seles. This is a big loss for her.

But the jubilation of Madison taking this is just overshadowing that aspect for me. That AO trophy really suits Madison Keys.

The whole final was an epic showcase for where the womens game is at right now.

I bet that bathroom got TRASHED.

I think Keys is the lowest ranked Australian Open women’s winner since Chris O’Neil in 1978?

The closest I can see was Kenin at #14 in 2020. Keys was #19.

Edit: been corrected that Serena was #81 in 2007 by @Moose Malloy

What a fairy tale after such a tough injury.

Madison wanted to play tennis when she saw Venus playing Wimbledon on TV and wanted her parents to buy her the same white dress that Venus was wearing. She'd get that dress as long as she starts playing tennis.

I realize this is way too soon but do you guys see Keys continuing her run from here? Maybe runs at Indian Wells and Miami?

EDIT: Actually just realized Doha and Dubai are first up on the women's side in terms of 1000's.

Keys saved match point against Swiatek in the SF too.

So she joins a small group of slam champions to win a slam while saving match point. It does happen a fair bit here in Australia. Osaka in 2021, Wozniacki in 2018, Kerber in 2016, Li Na in 2014. Meanwhile hasn’t happened at the US Open since 1986.

Sabalenka with her humour towards her team.

“As always, that’s your fault guys, I really hate you, I don’t want to see you for a week.”

You can’t dislike her.
I love how even though she was fuming with the result she's such a seasoned champ now that she composed herself and gave Keys the deserved credit. She's got a great personality, different but also a similar humour to Li Na who produced many a highlight in her speeches alone.

Duno, she's nearly 30. Much more likely she'll be content now with what she's achieved, get a baby in a few years and retire.

So happy for keys. I tipped her to win at so many slams and she would play great and then just meet someone with a more versatile game or she’d self destruct. This time, I never gave her a chance. Of course, she then won. Great player, role model and person.

IW is too slow for her, only ever make QF once.
Dubai is also too slow and most likely she will skip being AO champ and turning 30 on that month.

She can clay it out with her power, but I would expect she will pick it up in Wimbledon-America's summer.

Yonex already proclaiming to be the Queen and king of tennis racekets,, cause they did what Wilson couldn't do.... Win the Slam for Madison
