One thing I noticed from the highlights is that Keys game has added a defensive slice that bailed her out on a few important points. She may have had it before but I always remember her just trying to blast through the opponent.
Yeah I thought the shot looked a bit robotic at times but the way the ball landed looked far more effective than the mechanics of the shot. I hope she has more success this year, it's such a feel good story seeing a player who's always had the talent but never the temperament to win a major. Previously her game would just fall apart as her huge strokes required a loose arm and relaxed mind but it appears she's able to stabilise far better now than in previous years and not let it run away from her.

Funny how everybody wanted to see number 1 vs number 2 and how most never gave Maddy a chance to win this final. The women's tour is so much more competitive than the men's right now.

They aren't making the most of it though. As of this moment, there is no mention of Keys or her triumph on the Yonex homepage. The lead news item is about Ben Shelton. https://www.yonex.com/ (could be different by the time you check).

Keys does not even appear to be included in the master list of tennis endorsers. https://www.yonex.com/athletes/tennis
The Yonex Japanese web team does not work on weekends. And besides the story, photos, layout need to be approved by 16 levels of approvals. I'm half-joking, supported by personal experience and shared experience of others :D.

From QA perspective, "16 levels of approvals" is a blessing for players who demand precision. Hope they continue to make great racquets! And please share some of those Regna stocks to other partd of the world. Managed to snag one recently but much difficulty :p.

Exactly she is one who has easy power on both wings. You could see that only the screams were louder for Sabs but the keys shots were faster. She looks to have learnt to compose herself and measure her shots rather than go for broke like she used to do before. Looks like a successful marriage. I think she has a good shot at the US open this year.

Maddy always had the game to be a GS winner, but struggled with the mental part believing she can win. Further proof that this game is all about what is between the ears.

So so so happy for Maddy and her entire team. I see her hubby is still in shock lol. All the off season hard work paid off.

Maddy played amazing tennis when it mattered the most, especially in those 30-30 games on her racket. All mental fortitude.
Not just tennis, all games at the professional level is all about mental fortitude.

Regarding Sab's post match comments, all jokes have an element of truth in them. I hope Sabalenka realizes that she alone lost to Keys. Keys just flat out beat her, hitting hard, serving, drop shots, movement, etc.. Today, Madison is the #1 WTA player.

Yea honestly there is no one who needs to be ashamed at losing to keys during this tournament. She went on a legendary run and beat people who were either at the very top or almost at the top of their game. No one had a twisted ankle. No one was sick. She went out and for whatever reason, racket, marriage, coaching, therapy she put together literally some of the best tennis we have seen by a women from start to finish ever.
