Starting new thread for discussion of ATP doubles in 2025.

The first week of 250 finals went to the Brits yesterday, with Luke Johnson and his Dutch partner Sander Arends claiming the title in Hong Kong over highly ranked Russian singles bashers Khachanov/Rublev

In Brisbane, British team Cash/Glasspool edged hard-hitting NextNextGen Czech singles studs Lehecka/Mensik.

Both winning duos had in common that they first paired up near the end of last season and found some success leading into the new year.

AO should have some great matchups. I noticed Thanasi and NK are teaming up again. Will the be able to recreate that mojo from a few years back?

Did you create a WTA dubs thread? Some interesting pairings to start the year.

he will underperform relative to his doubles UTR.
Interesting given that rating is lower than his singles rating and he won gold (with the best women's doubles player in the world). Sounds like he had to retire from cramps, so there is a chance he can still perform.

The UTR scale maxes out at about 16.4 in singles but only 15.2 in doubles. Because… it just does.

I'm still unable to locate the women's entry list for AO. I'm interested to see if Siniakova will play w/ Townsend again (I'm hoping).

Thanks, trav, for starting this thread. I hate being the one to start all the dubs threads.

Not listed yet. But there are some known partnerships.

I am a little concerned Taylor and Katerina might not be playing together. Taylor appears to still be in the US and Katerina is playing with Perez in a warm up to the AO.

I saw that pairing. Siniakova's partner for last year was Hunter, until she got hurt. Assuming Hunter was healthy again, Siniakova would play w/ her, if not Townsend. So I have hope that Perez won't be her steady partner, perhaps just a fill in until Townsend arrives down under. Considering their success, even through the WTA finals, I'd hope Siniakova stays w/ Townsend this year.

The other WTA dubs player that impresses me, even though she's old, is Laura Siegemund. She's playing Adelaide w/ Haddad Maia, who was supposed to play w/ Townsend last year, until she bailed on her once Hunter was hurt and Siniakova called.

On the men's side, I saw Ram played w/ Christian Harrison, while Kracijek is out w/ injury. I hope he can recover in time for AO.

Laura is a sneaky good doubles player. Incredible touch and off the charts tennis IQ. She’s rubbed some players the wrong way (hey that didn’t double bounce, etc.) or i think she would have been able to secure some better partners.

A couple of upsets in the Adelaide R32 action:

Ex #1 and defending AO champ Bopanna and temp partner Barrientos fell to Balaji / Reyes-Varela.

And in a rare match-up of 2 ex #1s, Murray / Peers were downed by Brazilians Matos / Melo.

Ellen confirmed to Louise Pleming that she is playing the AO with Katerina.

I’ve followed Julian Cash a little bit since his days at Oklahoma State. I liked watching him play in college and recall when he beat the no.1 player at the NCAA team event. It’s great to see he’s having success at the highest levels of the sport.

#5 seeds Lammons/Withrow fall in Adelaide R16 in straight non-tiebreak sets to Nys/Roger-Vasselin. They were dominated 28:14 in receiver points.

One of the breakthrough teams of 2024, they have been slow to recover their form down under.

With some protection from the sun under the pavilion, Heliovaara/Patten had smoother sailing today than yesterday.

They dispatched Dodig/Mansouri quickly, who had knocked off the 8th seeded Gille/Zielinski in their team debut.

Cash/Glasspool can’t convert 2 mp including one on serve, and fall to Bhambri / Olivetti in the Auckland QF.

Adelaide had the 4 best teams, and Adelaide goes chalk. All 4 top seeds advanced to the semis. All 4 QF in straight sets.

Ram/Kracijek drew ebden/Vliegen first round!?

On the women's side, krawczyk/Collins drew #2 seeds dabrowski/routliffe first round!?

Glad to see siniakova/Townsend together as the #1 seeds.

Defending champion Bopanna already ousted in R1. He and Barrientos (#14 seed) were the first seeded team to fall.

His co-champ partner from last year Ebden is even odds to survive R1. He’s playing with lanky lefty Vliegen, so I like his chances to sneak by the pair of ex #1s Krajicek/Ram.

I hope Ebden follows suit and bows out, but I think the fact that Kracijek is hurt, will help determine the outcome. I still don't understand this first round matchup.

This is the only marquis matchup in R1. Upsets can always happen, especially since we don’t have 2025 data yet on many teams, but majority of matchups have lop-sided odds.

SofaScore had betting odds as 50/50.
But the Sofa fan voting picking K/R over E/V by 75/25 margin.

I personally would lean E/V as the pick here 60/40, especially if match happens in afternoon sun.

I’m getting antsy.

It’s already Wednesday and the first round has hardly gotten started.

Let’s go!
I wonder if Ram/Krajicek talked Craig Tiley into scheduling them later in the week so that Krajicek could recover from his injury. It's crazy that they aren't even going to play tomorrow.

I watched the highlights of the Krawcyzk/Collins vs Dabrowski/Routliffe 1st round match, and it was tight. The Americans were up a break in the 3rd and then lost the next 4 games in a row. That matchup should've never happened in rd 1.

The weather supposed to heat up over the weekend, then cool off again.

My teams are from northern climes so I hope we can survive the hot weekend.

The trend from the singles continues with the doubles:

Aussies, Spaniards, and Portuguese players have been overperforming this tourney.

2 more seeds fell.

#6 Mektic/Venus new pairing falls to Portuguese NextGen duo Borges/Cabral.

#8 Gonzalez/Molteni Argie old-timers ousted by Aussie wildcards Li Tu and Luke Saville.

Wow those are two big upsets. AO has always favored good returners and baseliners at this venue. I think big serve teams are neutralized by the fluffy, slow balls.

Why did kyrgios quit? I watched the highlights, but they didn't include the quitting. I'm glad he's out.

Also, I saw that the first rd match of granollers/zeballos was cancelled. I assume zeballos is still injured. Bc they didn't withdraw earlier, they just gave away the second seed and opened their half of the draw.

Granollers had lingering chest injury and pulled out last minute. He looked terrible playing with Alcaraz so I wonder if he was already suffering.

Kokk has shoulder issue apparently.

Bottom half of draw was already looking tender. I hope my guys can bring enough level to take advantage.

Jordan Thompson also pulled out. He was supposed to play with Pospisil.
