Tennis has a very small following in India. It was not a widespread discussion, just a few ex players. And they had this complex that no Indian in recent memory has done it in singles. So they are going ga ga over Nishesh Basavareddy.Kinda crazy that there is this open discussion in India (apparently) about a perceived genetic inferiority in therms of athleticism. I think it's quite interesting, but I know many people are scared to talk about things like that. It's also pretty amazing that a country with a population in the billions cannot find at least a few players that put it all together.
He is Indian origin and hence all those Indian genes talk.
General population is not bothered about tennis. So a minuscule proportion has heard this comments to generate any outrage.
Cricket is the overwhelming sport. So its cricket where we have world beaters though its mainly beating on skill, not so much on physical strength or athletism. We are now the strongest nation in chess too.
And way behind in physical sport viz. Soccer, sprint, swimming etc.
