Can someone please explain to me how a 418 in the world with no matches played at all can get a WC to the AO main draw while everyone else has to go through qualifiying??

A quick google-fu and I found this:

"It was a valuable week at the perfect time for Samrej, who earlier in the month won the Australian Open Asia-Pacific Wild Card Playoff to earn his place at the season’s first major"

Also he spent a week training with Djokovic before the tournament too, which must have helped how he performed today haha

you're giving medvedev a hard time but he just hasn't played any matches this year. he stayed at home for the birth of his kid. He will get better as he works his way into tournament props to samrej though

Melbourne is fantastic with it's multicultural community (as is a lot of Australia). A lot of Lebanese people in Melbourne as well as Turkish fans who came along to watch Sonmez yesterday in the ladies singles!

Also a favourite fun fact is that Melbourne as a city has the largest population of Greek people in the world, outside of Greece.
and Tsitsipas still lost even with home crowd

I'm reminded Nole was training in Phuket with Paradorn.

I don't see Popyrin lasting this match out. Seems too injured.

But. I thought the same for Kokkinakis and he won his match and also for Kyrgios who played out his match to a loss.

Aussies have been messing with me the last 48 hours.

Your thoughts so far? I don't know if fonseca isn't that good returning or if Rublev is serving really well.
Judging by Fonseca's footwork and movement so far, he still is a little bit taken by the moment but looks to be settling in more and more. From the first 10 games it is already obvious that Fonseca has the bigger game overall so key for Rublev will be to keep the pressure up.

Knew that Moutet would cause Popyrin trouble and he's also clearly stuggling with injury.

Moutet breaks again.

Leads with the double break in this 3rd set now.

The crowd is just actively booing Moutet now cause he's beating Aussie Popyrin. He's loving it but. Mad respect to the Frenchman for silencing this crap Aussie crowd who don't respect the sport.

Corentin is doing everything right, Popyrin just needs to either improve or retire with his obvious injury.

Agreed. Fonseca looks especially good in the longer rallies. Great movement and brutal ball-striking with great hands is a deadly combination.

Fonseca didn´t play overly well (nor did Rublev) but somehow managed to hold his serve. In the breaker however the young Brazilian played perfect tennis!

MON!
Fonseca is hitting balls to the wall!
Anyway, impressed by the kid, he's playing to the FH not the backhand, and he's winning so far! Anyway, still a long way to go!

Rublev served really well, but Fonseca just gave it all in that tiebreak. Impressive.

Yep. Rublev looked comfortable on his serve during the set but Fonseca stepped it up 2 levels on the TB. Fonseca also serving well. specially in big situations ... something he did all throughout the qualys
