No ice between these two champs...
But is Sinner really 1.92?

What's with all the height discussions on this forum? Does it matter whether he's 1.92, 1.91 or 1.90? He's obviously tall, you can tell that just by looking at him.
Some seem to make value judgements in reference to height, while mocking those perceived as short, such as Alcaraz.

When is the draw for the Australian Open?

The Australian Open singles draw will be made on Thursday, January 9 at 2.30am UK time.

so 9:30 tonight EST

Hey all! I've been out of the loop with the game for awhile now. I take it the defending champ Sinner is the favourite? Any sleepers/dark horses you're all watching for?

Good to be back and looking forward to the tournament!

Alcaraz looking for his 4th straight win over Sinner and his 3rd straight hardcourt win over Sinner!
Draw begins 2.30pm (women's first I guess), in 23 minutes :D !

Just watched the Eubanks qualifier match against Boyer and man, Chris doesn't look like the same player from this past US Open let alone his Wimbledon run in '23. Really wanted to see him at least go a few rounds this AO

Since you are Team Canada, let's say FAA.

A few folks have put Ruud's name out there.

I've been away for a while as well. Maybe it's because our Canadians have fallen off the map. Oh well!
Who are people picking to upset?

I haven't seen anyone bold enough to pick an upset for Sinner (maybe once the draw is out).

I will say Nole makes it to the quarters.

Many interesting stories here - Djokovic going for title #100 and slam #25 to break the tie with Court. Teaming up with Murray whom he denied winning this title.

Alcaraz going for the career GS at an absurdly young age.

Sinner looking to cement his dominance on hard courts.

Zverev looking for his first GS title.

Medvedev, the three-time finalist, looking to stay relevant and perhaps get that second GS title.

AdM looking for a run at his home slam.

And plenty of others.
Kyrgios looking for someone VERY specific.

That's not an easy first match for Sinner, but it opens up from there.

Popyrin has to like his (Med's) quarter, and Zed's section is just ripe with potential for so many players.

Not a bad draw for the Novak. Avoided Sinner like a PLEAGUE. If Carlos can be taken out by Draper, it becomes the best case scenario. Avoids Sinner/ Medvedev. Avoids Zverev until semifinal and who knows if Zverev is really reaching semis.

Djokovic got the hardest QF-SF-F you can possible get :D !

Sinner's draw was good, let's say that Jarry could have done worse but also better in the first round, I would have avoided Hurkacz in the eighths, but compensated by the fact of being in the same part of the draw as Fritz and not Alcaraz, and De Minaur and not Djokovic.
Sinner is the strongest but if you can save energy in the previous rounds it's always better, even if a rediscovered Medvedev can be more difficult than both Alcaraz and the current Djokovic.

While Djokovic's draw was terrible.
Machac in the third round was exactly the one to avoid in that tier.
But above all a possible clash in the quarterfinals with Alcaraz.
Same initial draw as Alcaraz which can hide some unknowns with Thompson and Draper.

The one who fared best of all is Zverev who seems to have a highway to the semifinals.
I doubt that the current Kyrgios can cause him any problems, as well as Fils who has always suffered in the recent past but 3 out of 5 is another sport.

Well technically it could've been

Sinner-ADM
Fritz-Ruud
Alcaraz-Djokovic
Zverev-Medvedev

to get Medvedev over Zverev in the SF for a harder match on paper.
I didn't know Medvedev was able to win anything anymore  he talks and plays like he's got no confidence at all

My prediction for the 4th round;
Sinner-Hurkacz
De Minaur-Tsitsipas

Fritz-Musetti
Medvedev-Tiafoe

Djokovic-Lehecka
Alcaraz-Draper

Ruud-Paul
Zverev-Fils

Quarter finals
Sinner-De Minaur
Fritz-Medvedev
(Round robin group Nastase)

Djokovic-Draper
Zverev-Ruud

Semifinals
Sinner-Medvedev
Zverev-Djokovic

Finals
Sinner-Zverev

Winner
SINNER

However, I predict that outside of the direct clashes between the big names, for Sinner, Alcaraz and Djokovic, the toughest obstacles will be Hurkacz, Machac and Draper respectively, with Alcaraz seriously risking going out against Draper if the British player shows the same form as at the end of 2024, which is not a given considering that he is recovering from a fairly serious problem.

As for Sinner, I am satisfied that at least until the semifinal he avoided opponents like Djokovic or Medvedev, but also Machac himself, for the simple reason that in my opinion in this tournament he will take even longer than usual to get into gear.
Against Popyrin in the exhibition match I saw him cumbersome in the Montreal and Cincinnati style movements of last year, he himself declared before the match that he had a little problem at the beginning of the preparation.
Tomorrow against Tsitsipas I hope to see him more convincing from an athletic point of view.

Some absolute popcorn 1R matches:

Berrettini v Norrie
Rune v Zhang
Mpetshi v Monfils!
Shelton v Nakashima
Bautista Agut v Shapovalov
Musetti v Arnaldi
Tiafoe v Rinderknech
Dimitrov v Fognini
Felix v Struff

Another easy qualies win (R2 over C. Wong) for The Fonz, 60 63.

Tien also had an easy R2 win, 64 62.

I’d like to see either play Egg.

Both cruise through qualies. The Learner lost only six games in R3. The Fonz lost only five.

If you look at all the qualy spots available, they are some great potential 2nd round matchups all around.
Got it.

Hopefully they can each get out of R1. First time in a main draw major for The Fonz. But he’s gotta nice win streak going so he’s gotta be feeling confident.
