#25 Aussie Popyrin is out. Loses to Moutet who gets the upset in a well played match!

Crowd tried hard but the Frenchman was so good and consistent and wins in 4 sets.

A bit of disappointment. He was gaining some momentum in his career with Cincy win, and this was his chance to propel himself higher up the ranking at home soil.

Looked to have an injury in the 2nd set, he fought hard and the crowd tried their hardest (I wasn't a fan with what they were doing) but he still lost.

Full credit to Moutet.

That section of the draw is kinda open after Med got forced to 5 sets, so did Tiafoe, Rublev looks like he's going to lose. Wide open maybe?

Hope Fonseca makes it into 2nd week. I already am a fan of his.

With Wawrinka losing today, there's now only 2 former AO champs in the draw and that's Djokovic and Sinner.

And with Tsitsipas losing today, there's only 1 other player in the draw who's made a final here in Melbourne and that's Medvedev.

Obviously still alive is Alcaraz a champ at other slams and then other former finalists which include: Fritz, Zverev, Ruud, Berrettini and Nishikori.

Looks like he's a Roger kid. The outfit dropped a huge hint.

From Essentially Sports:

Speaking about his admiration for Roger Federer during a previous interview, Fonseca said, “As a child I always watched a lot of Roger Federer matches. He was the player I enjoyed watching the most because he always made tennis look easy. He is an idol for me.” Earlier this year in an interview with UOL, he even revealed, “When I was younger, I wore every Federer shirt possible. I was a big fan of him. My family has always been. My mother is a fanatic about him.

The kid has a great taste!

Joking aside, I see certain influence of Roger's in his game. He looks to construct a point for the final kill, which results in attacking style of tennis, like Roger. As the consequence, he finishes a lot of points short, just like Roger as well. He is a good thinker who plays a lot of smart shots to keep his opponents off balance, like Roger. He also has every shot. I just hope he stays fit and healthy and give us another Golden Generation.

With the 1R finished, my standout 2R matches:

#18 Hurkacz v Kecmanovic
#21 Shelton v Carreno Busta
#16 Musetti v Shapovalov
Fonseca v Sonego
#26 Machac v Opelka
#15 Draper v Kokkinakis

And then some matches I can definitely see as upsets too:
#13 Rune v Berrettini
#6 Ruud v Mensik
#29 Felix v Davidovich Fokina
#12 Paul v Nishikori
