Lindsay Davenport's son Jagger Leach up 6-1, 4-3 in his QF. He's 17 years old. Anyone know how good he's supposed to be?
Good enough, #7 jr world, to be [5] seed here and now in the Jr SFs.
Tall, lanky, 2HBH. Volleys OK, but baseliner.
Must be top US jr now.
Can make a living in tennis.
Face like mother's.

How about this Swiss Henry Bernet? I watched him play in a challenger last year, his playing style is quite similar to Wawrinka's and Federer's.
He just defeated the top seed Kumstatt, 7-6 7-6
I heard a lot of hype against him. Is he promising?

Yes, just beat Kumstatt in QFs, saw part of it. We can watch him in the SFs.
Might play Leach in the final.
Yes, he is using the 1HBH quite well.
For now, he plays somewhat in the style of Federer, moving fluidly.
He's tall, not big for now, he'll need to put on some muscle.
I think he is definitely promising, see him here:

I think he's rumored to be what ppl were hoping Cruz Hewitt or Leo Borg would be
Does anyone know why the Agassi/Graf kids aren't the most insanely gifted tennis players in the history of the planet? Did they even play tennis?

Wow, sold! I will 100% support him if he shows up on tour.

Because both Agassi and Graf had tennis maniac parents and did not want to force their kids down that route. They both harbor a love-hate relationship with the sport, and they didn't want to continue that legacy.

Smart.

Bernet's OHBH reminds me some of Stan's. Nice feet, too. One more to watch..

Yeah, Ben Rottenberg tweets are a no go. The guy has no brain and no insight, but he's happy to jump on the bandwagon that's complaining about the Aussie media?

As for Shelton, one of the things he mentioned was an interviewer saying that Monfils was "almost your dad." He pretty clearly meant to say 'old enough to be' your dad, but misspoke in the moment. Ben is making something out of nothing.

Honestly, this is a little disappointing from Shelton. I like his athletic tennis, and I enjoy his high energy persona on court, which is pretty fun. I don't know why he's trying to seem serious and intellectual in his interviews. I mean, he only went to college to hit a little green ball, and he doesn't strike me as a super deep thinking. I think a few of the people on tour have been in the bubble too long, and don't realize there are serious people out in the world dealing with things on a level they can't even really comprehend.
Agreed.
And the question about “how does it feel that everyone’s rooting against you”, is maybe not very nice, but a very legitimate question.
If you can handle walking into a hostile arena, you should be able to handle being asked about it.

Good news is he doesn’t seem hampered by his leg injury. Bad news is that he still has heavy taping on that leg visible beneath his shorts.

Novak is stretching and loosening up, his techniques are amazing

Henry Bernet on 1573.
Wins a tight 1st set TB with two magnificent 1BH winners.

Jagger Leach-[Davenport] is on court 6, in the other SF.

Our Australian Open 2025 champ. Jannik Sinner!

5000.jpg

Unfortunately didn't watch, but the stats are staggering in many levels. Zverev's aces (didn't help him win), Sinner never facing a breakpoint even once, Sinner's first and and second serves return win, etc, etc.

Dang, he's on a 24th winning streak! Congrats, impressive win/run. Most of his W were also in straight sets.

Men's tennis has been given a breath of life (no predictions on how long it will last), with Sinner defending his Australian Open title, and defeating the talent-challenged, Violent Offender Zverev to achieve it in straight sets! That was a great display of Sinner's true talent. One can feel his sense of vindication after months of babbling noise attempting to destroy his reputation and career (at the hands of some who wanted him to fail or lose his career to protect an overrated opponent).

I laugh heartily at the pre-match predictions trying to sprinkle Abuser Dust on Zverev to win, handicapping Sinner to degrees only born of desperation (and their reasons for defending him across endless threads) to see Zverev achieve a majors victory when he never had a chance.

Australian Open 2025 Men's Side: Djokovic served his purpose by defeating the overrated Alcaraz, and Sinner restated his position as a force at the majors by taking the Violent Offender Zverev to school and winning the title.
Great results and messages sent for the future.

4 min of the JR Final. Some GREAT shots.

The American finalist, Benjamin Willwerth, will go to U of Arizona.
The champion, the Swiss Henry Bernet, will try to up his ATP ranking (#700 or so).
He's signed with Federer's company for something or other. He's from Roger's club of Basel too.
Severin might coach him.

Kudos to the boys.

This is a great story and great for tennis. I would LOVE to find out that Roger himself was giving some 1HBH advice to the youngster.

In the face of EVERYONE saying the 1HBH was dead. This was on hard courts!
