Jarry was top 20 as recently as last year, i've seen him play far better matches. When he beat Carlos in Argentina last year was far better. Even in Beijing against Sinner he played way better. The dude is hitting hideous errors, I just don't agree with your statement saying can

Cause this is not good by Jarry and i'm sure he'd say it's not even in the top 20 matches of how well he's played of his life.

Sure, but we don't normally get to choose when we play our top 20 matches, right?

He played a good match, but fluffed it up in the tiebreak. Sinner has forced a lot of players to do that recently.

I felt Jarry was going to be able to snatch one set, but it looks like Sinner is on his way to smashing that consecutive set record.

Why is this being debated lmao. As I said, he clearly wasn't playing the best match of his life which is what the person I quoted said. In no world was that his best match of his life. I've seen Jarry play absolute lights out, that was not it.

If you think that was the best match Jarry has ever played then ok.

Jack Draper dropped the first set, bit of a shock. He's up 3-1 in the 2nd but.

Kokkinakis is down a set and not exuding confidence on court at all.

Koepfer fought back and won the 3rd set to force a 4th against Thompson.

I said Jarry played as well as he could've, but that doesn't mean that was the match of his life. I know he was no.16 or something, but he just hasn't been able to break into top 10. I disagree and I think that was a high quality tennis, but to each his own.

No, he said he played as well as he could. On a day-to-day basis, this was a good level from Jarry.

Ug I don't want to argue cause I like you both but no, what was said was right here below "play the best match of their life and Sinner can still somehow beat them".
Basically, Sinner is like what Djokovic used to be. His opponents can play the best match of their life and Sinner can still somehow beat them.

I didn't invent a quote.

Anyway, good start for Sinner and has an easier match next against either Taro Daniel or Aussie WC Tristan Schoolkate.

Daniel took the first set in a breaker but Tristan took the 2nd in a breaker and is up 3-0 in the 3rd :D

Thanks for that, but "His opponents can play the best match of their life and Sinner can still somehow beat them" was not a description of how Jarry was playing but more of a general comment. The opponents can play the best tennis of their lives, but Sinner and Djokovic can still somehow beat them, to be more clear. ;)

Winner Sinner

I am very satisfied with this debut of Sinner that could hide a minimum of pitfalls.
Jarry is a player who does not let you get into rhythm, when he is in a good shape like today he tests his solidity, and Sinner responded present by arming himself with his proverbial patience in the various folds of the match.
Athletically he picked up where he left off.
Now on to the next opponent who will surely be much more tame.

PS
Once again Jarry very cold during the handshake.
I do not know if it is a habit for him to shake hands with the opponent immediately turning his head, or all this is motivated by the usual case of positivity, ergo, being convinced that Sinner received privileged treatment compared to his case.

Have three streams going + the TV. Aussies are killing it. Thompson up 4-1 in the 4th, close to finishing off Koepfer.

Vukic just won the 4th set to force a 5th against Dzumhur.

Tristan Schoolkate up 2 sets to 1 on Taro Daniel now.

Kokkinakis up 5-2 in the 2nd set to level it against Safiullin.

Kokkinakis may be retiring soon.

Looks like Todd Woodbridge might nailed it with what he said this morning that Kokk chased the money by playing exhibitions in Russia last months instead of focusing on his off season and preparing for 2025.

He withdrew mid tournament last week in Adelaide and he looks ready to quit this match after the MTO about 5 minutes ago.

The conditions also helped Jarry to roll the dice by going for it. We are seeing this type of ‘big boy’ tennis much more than during the dominance of the big3 and for good tactical reasons.

Sinner was playing well enough against this tricky and cold opponent.

Just eyeballing the Sinner draw (I was watching the Roddick podcast with their picks) and it's crazy that Sinner has pretty much a bye until the semis and even Fritz although he had a good year last year, is a fairly pedestrian semi matchup or Medvedev who has come off his worst season in a long time. He might not even get tested until the final. Ugh
That actually could backfire for him in the final though, no matter who you are you want to have sone kind of test, to prepare you for the final as he undoubtedly will in the championship match.

Yes, Indeed. Jarry was also a tough opponent for 1st Rd. It seems we are getting good depth in men's tennis with lots of players who are good enough to be top 20 or 40.

I agree

There's a Big 3, Zod and Ruud, then falling stars like Tpas, and tons of new blood at various stages of development who could win big titles soon

I can't see the match, but does anyone know what's going on in the Korda match?

Sebastian won the first set, then only won 5 points total in the second set going down 0-6. Now he's up two breaks early in the third. Roller coaster...

To Tsitsipas - this year's season is starting "nicely" for him. :( The AO is his most successful Grand Slam tournament, one final participation, in which he was short at AO GOAT and several other deep runs in Melbourne, today's failure is indicative of poor form and low self-confidence.

Shevchenko is not an easy opponent for Carlos, had a great United Cup with Rybakina.

The pair made the SF's with Shevchenko scoring wins over Tsitsipas and Masur of Germany.

Meanwhile this is Carlos's first proper match since the Davis Cup Finals.

Big cheers for the Fearnley DF lol
I'm glad the crowd have stayed relatively out of it, I feared they would be disgusting like they were when Kyrgios and Kokkinakis played doubles and won that year. Shouting during points, booing when opponents won a point, cheering double faults.

Kyrgios said he would do everything possible to have the crowd influence the match and I just hate that, that's not tennis to me.
