Eala of the Philippines who's sponsored by Nike and trains at the Rafael Nadal Academy. She's still yet to make a main draw at a major which is surprising. I'm going to guess she will qualify for RG this year.

If Nike Tennis is just gonna be a Rafa dominated thing I'm gonna consider taking my dollars elsewhere. Obviously the affiliation is carrying over to the Nadal Academy. Do I really want to support the company that cut Fed, Grigor, Musetti, Fritz and Tiafoe loose all so they can set up a handshake with RNA to give Nadal students preferential treatment?

+1 here - they are lucky so many ppl like watching alcaraz and sinner. even still, quite infuriating how the roster has deteriorated. at the end of the day, we want to use what the most exciting pros use

Just read that Aiava has been wearing retro Ivanovic/Sharapova attire from over a decade ago in her qualifying matches. I'll have to try and dig some pictures out later to see them and I'll definitely be keeping an eye out for her R1 outfit to see what she goes with. Pretty cool versus just buying random bits from a variety of manufacturers.

Ball kids rocking the $250 Polo shoe with carbon plate in the midsole. I wonder if anybody who has purchased that shoe has ever actually stepped foot on a tennis court with it.

holy moly yonex, my eyes need washing after seeing this.
Honestly the cuts/blocking and colour combinations kind of remind me of what they were doing when they first properly launched their apparel (and this will date me severely) like ~20 years ago with Nalbandian and Hewitt. Interesting ideas but sadly a step backwards, at least for this collection.

I looked these up too and they don't look like the worst thing I've ever seen from a designer brand, but that cost is way too high. Forefoot sections look wild.

Yuck even worse  To me, the sail/ivory/light tan/sand/coconut milk trend just looks like an old sweaty dingy white shirt.
I can see that too. I like those kinds of colors, personally, but I can’t decide if I like this Yonex kit or not. Anyway, gotta credit Yonex for trying something different.

The reason these colors work so well is because don't wash out your skin color like plain/pure white does.

Like my car is off-white. It always looks white no matter what. But the trim below (GTI) had a Pure White that looks icy blue in some light conditions. Adding a little brown makes the white softer, more natural, more flattering

I dunno, white colors looked great from the 60s through the 2000s until the off white tints started a few years ago. Never through Sampras in the 90s or Fed in the 00s looked washed out in their Wimby whites. Imagine Fed's 2009 AO or FO 2011 outfits with coconut milk shorts, yikes.

I'm just ranting, don't pay attention. It's personal preference, wear what you like. I have a white car but it's got lots of flakes in it for depth.

Fair to say, this has to be some of the worst outfits at an AO in recent memory. It's almost like all the real designers were fired and they used AI to design their clothes this year....

Brands using generative AI to come up with designs is a real thing. Some of the justifications are that it supposedly speeds up the design process and enhances creativity. However, there are a host of challenges, including potential copyright infringement. Personally, I'm not convinced that it's a technology that's ready for prime time yet, especially with some of the schlock output I've seen. Anyway, that's probably more opining than your comment required, but you are probably not too far off base.

New Balance are usually so reliable this time of year but all their men’s gear looks like it is sponsored by the Australian Olympic Commitee.

As an Australian I should technically be proud but I keep expecting RayGun to appear out of nowhere in a Green/Yellow New Balance tracksuit o_O

Yup I'm in the arts, lots people being replaced in my field by AI for better or for worse.

(Having said that, I do like NB's colourways, it's just strange the chose the Aus Olympic colours — I wonder if it was intentional?)
