I have seen hundreds of Sinner's matches but I have never seen a performance as close to perfection as this one.
Devastating on serve, devastating on return, devastating in the rallies from the baseline, where while the Australian was pushing at his maximum power, Sinner was generating the same speed by switching to low gears.
In short, he treated De Minaur like Alcaraz had treated Nishioka, only this is the world number 8 and not the 67.

I would say he is ready for these possible last two matches here in Melbourne.

Is this a contender for his best match played so far? I struggle to think of anything quite as perfect against such a high-ranked player.

For dominance against a high-level player the first comparison that comes to mind is the semifinal with Ruud in Turin, but today we went beyond that.
There would also be the Miami final with a Dimitrov on fire, but on that occasion the score was excessively severe given that the Bulgarian at the beginning of the first set had some opportunities to break the Italian's serve.
Or the semifinal always in Miami with Medvedev, but even there, although Sinner played a solid match, there were also many demerits of the Russian in the economy of such a severe score.

Today, however, net of the extremely favorable matchup, the feeling is that De Minaur could not have done anything more than what he did.
He was simply helpless in front of the suffocating pace of Sinner who also combined some sensational defenses in extension.
If they had continued to play for another 2/3 hours the script would not have changed.

Agreed. Certainly his best match in a slam in recent years. Not broken at all and faced only 1 break point iirc. On the bright side, Sinner might be on track to breaking Noles record of the Monfils 20-0 lol

Yes, the other absurd thing is precisely this, in 12 games on his serve he conceded only 10 points to the player who closed 2024 with the best return rating.

True but DM game is the perfect matchup for Sinner since it gives pace and flow without too much power. ideal sparring partner for tuning up shots.

A one sided beatdown.

De Minaur vs Sinner is like a version of Federer vs Ferrer, Sinner has pinpoint accuracy with his shots and that makes it harder for the grinder, the scurrying type player to make any headway.

Just from the highlights, it looked like AdM did not have any plan B when he failed to hit Sinner off the court. He is fast enough to come to the net when Sinner was in a slightly defensive position but just kept hitting from the baseline.

The only player who has a higher absolute peak is Alcaraz, but Sinner's solid base level and overall peak level is so massive and so consistent, he has become next to impossible to beat on HC.
Yah man, word. Fascinating how Jannik perpetually assesses the required response and executes it in the blink of an eye, often with lethal accuracy. As a relative youngster, this level of diligence is an enormous achievement in itself. Dude is superb, as is his belief in his acumen. Top drawer stuff.

Respect ADM's work ethic / continued efforts at being the best that he can. Excellent result to reach the QF's, hopefully propel him into a good year ahead.

Jannik was my pick for the title and having seen this match, dude remains on course if he continues in this form. A likely straight setter against Ben looms large. Let's see.

In fact, during the match the Italian commentator said that if Sinner has trouble feeling the ball in a tournament, he goes to call De Minaur to do a bit of warm-up so he can find the perfect feeling again. :)

Jokes aside, De Minaur is obviously the best possible matchup for Sinner, but today the Italian's performance was monstrous even after all that.
There were several situations where the Australian player managed to find excellent angles and depth, the problem is that in those situations Sinner with his incredible defense in extension made the ball return to him faster and deeper.

The physical form shown by Sinner today was shocking.

When you play a player that is overpowering you, it is hard to go to the net. You just don't go to the net for the sake to go to the net. You always need a point construction. I am sure that Alex tried, but couldn't.
