Nice opportunity for both players, especially with the QF being against Sonego or Tien. Neither has made the SF of the Australian Open, although both have made the QF. Monfils equals his career-best win streak with a win, and moves within one match of breaking new ground at a slam aged 38! Shelton looking to bounce back to his 2023 slam form after a reversion to the mean in 2024. Who's got this?

For what it's worth, I'm hoping for a Monfils win. I think he's got a good shot, but much will depend on how effectively he can return Shelton's serve. I'll probably vote Shelton in 4, but am going to think a bit about it first.

He has seen GMP and Fritz's serve so far. He should be fine as Shelton's is worse

fun match. have to say about shelton's serve, he should have like, the best serve on tour outside maybe like an opelka or somebody...nobody can hit it harder and he has great variety...but he doesn't seem to be able to hit his spots that well, and i think he has trouble producing that huge pace w regularity...seems to wind up curling a lot of like 119 mph 1st serves into opponent's strike zone. if he ever introduces some real accuracy, he might not need much else to take a major or two.

Yeah lefty kickers are dangerous for the server sometimes

I know a guy who hits one and if he hits it right, I'm toast. Waving my racquet like a fool into the middle of the court while the ball curves away from me. But if he doesn't hit it hard enough then it sits there where I can crush it inside-out

How much energy does Monfils have left?

Monfils hopefully in 4 sets. Two draining tiebreaks, Monfils looked gassed but won that 2nd.
Monfils have been tired his whole career.
And then runs down the dropshot. :)

I find it funny that after his grueling run to get to this point, Monfils now finds himself in a match that's going to tiebreaks in every set. None of this is coming easy for him. :-D

Watching Monfils when he actually plays well makes me both happy and sad. Happy because I cannot help but always cheer him, because he is such a nice guy, even when he plays my favs, I may not be wanting him to win, but always to put in a good showing of himself.....and sad, because I can see one of the biggest What IFs of the tennis world. Insane talent, and not even a masters title to show for it.

Yeah think I’ve finally decided I’m not a fan of Shelton. I defended him with the phone thing but these screams and reactions are inconsistent and he’s just too much. He’ll win this one but I think I’ve made my mind up on him.

Who does the winner play next?

Gurufils dishing out lessons at 38, never thought I'd see the day. Great week for him
