Not so sure I agree with this. See below (which is only one year ago).

It's still early, and I think there has actually been a pretty big drop off in talent/consistency outside the top 50 or 75 in the world. Lots of players in Round 1 that I hadn't even really heard of, or players/matchups that weren't particularly high level. You have you players like Kovinic, JeanJean, Rus, Carle, Dart, Fett, Sonmez, Gibson, Bussa, Paquet, Lys, Birrell, Sherif, Bondar, Riera, Grabher, Snigur, Hibino, Lamens, Marino, Gadecki, Marino, Li, Bouzas, Pera, Todoni, (Various Chinese Unknowns)... that are all essentially pushovers.
Fair enough. I suppose I want to give it more time to truly judge the field. I'm definitely liking the talent at the top though. As I said, there's reliability there. For awhile there wasn't and it made it difficult to find someone to root for consistently.

This first set (ER/AA) is almost a carbon copy of Navarro v. Kenin in their decider the other day. Slow, slow, slow.
Same as Raducanu's first match against Alexandrova. Just slow and punishing to watch.

That was a 2 hour 19 minute straight set match. Like good lord, come on ladies.

I wish both these ladies well, which makes for relaxed viewing. I'm positively surprised by Emma, I expected her to be overpowered, but she's holding her own.

Hmm. The two matches I watched have been riddled with UEs. Peeked at Wang match stats and that has over 23 UE also. Painful to watch these matches.

Swiatek is just clinical. Breaks again to take the match 6-0 6-2.

Hard not to see a Sabalenka-Swiatek final at the moment. Hopefully someone else steps up though.
