Keep running her ragged Mirra.
She's nowhere near as fit as you are!
You don't even need to go for winners at this point.

Bouzkova has tried many different things but at the end of the day, Andreeva is just a better player.

Even that shot that Bouzkova let go past her and it somehow landed in, I would have done it too. Andreeva just has all the answers and everything on her side.

The one thing with Mirra is she needs to slow down and take some breaths, don't let things run away. She rushed that game and got broken back. She's still the better player but has some maturing to do. Saw it in Brisbane as well and through last year.

yeah mirra emotion/mental is still a tennager. Once her mental game catches up to her physical abilities she will be much more dangerous

She was cruising at 30-0 and suddenly got distracted with something and double-faulted. Didn't win a point after that. She should already be heading to the locker room but she keeps giving lifelines to a never-say-die player, which is a dangerous thing to do.

Mirra is fortunate that Bouzkova is way below her best level.
This has been a very average set of tennis compared to the first.

My goodness some insane rallies!

And there's another one with Andreeva hitting a stunning winner to break. I don't even know how many shots that rally was but has to be over 25.

She's serving for it.

Also, in her first match since choking the Final of the WTA Finals, Zheng Qinwen is doing some more choking.

She led 5-3, had a set point on Todoni's serve, then when serving for it herself she had 3 more set points but got broken. Now Todoni leads 6-5.

That was a legitimate distraction that she complained about.
I saw the whole thing develop.
Ball kids need to be trained to just leave it alone!

It was a ball that had rolled astray. So by the time the kid had retrieved it and was running back into position he was clearly
in Mirra's line of vision.

I was distracted by it just watching her serve!

Andreeva and Andreescu. Not much in common except parts of the name.
At this stage, I'd have to place all my money on Mirra and cash out with Bibi.
I just don't see Andreescu making any sort of meaningful comeback now.

I don't question the fact it was distracting, I just want her to work on her mental consistency.
She often embarks on 3 or 4-point losing streaks after she gets distracted and loses her rhythm.

She managed to win the first set tiebreak with a couple of shots hitting the outside of the line. Todoni practicing her "I can't believe this ****" face.

I was so upset at Zheng choking the WTA Finals I can't even fathom being her fan.
Same with Jana Fett when she had Wozniacki on the ropes... and the rest is history.
Ugh, I watched that match. That was torture!
It truly was, I remember vividly a number of us here commenting on the match, I think a few of us even joked and said watch Caroline go and win the whole tournament now. And that she did.

Some seriously good 1R matches:

Sabalenka v Sloane
Andreeva v Bouzkova
Gauff v Kenin
Osaka v Garcia
Ostapenko v Bencic
Svitolina v Cirstea
Navarro v Stearns
Kalinina v Jabeur
Alexandrova v Raducanu
Swiatek v Siniakova
This in insane. Two matches featuring both gs winners

And one between gs winner and gold medalist

Also Swiatek v Siniakova. Former #1, current #2 and 5x slam champ vs the current doubles #1.

And Osaka v Garcia. Both unseeded now but a former #1 and 4x slam champ (twice here in Melbourne) vs former top 5 in singles Garcia.

I didnt include siniakova because she is doubles specialist. That match shouldnt be a threat for iga.

Osaka vs garcia can be epic

Damn, didn't realize until Jelena Dokic just said it that Sabalenka has only lost at a hard court slam once in the last 2.5 years. And that was the 2023 US Open Final against Gauff.

Since the end of the 2022 US Open she is 27-1 at hard court slams. Won 2023 Aus Open, lost in the final of 2023 USO, won both the 2024 Aus Open and US Open.

Crazy stat.

well gauff is the only one to beat sabalenka on gs hc recently and has the game to run everything down. that being said iga is probably eating nails waiting for another chance at her after united cup lol
Thought the same thing and Gauff beat Sabs at the WTA Finals. But Sabs is unstoppable at these hard court slams and didn't struggle to beat Gauff in the SF here last year. Hearing that stat has me wanting to change back to Sabs. Seeing her in Brisbane crushing Andreeva in the SF for revenge for the French Open QF loss was something else. Sure she dropped a set to Polina but still won the final.

I'm not sure what Zheng did in the weeks leading up to the AO where she withdrew but it's understandable that she will be rusty in match play initially and will need t work her way into the draw. I'm not sure she will or can be ready for the Sabalenka she could encounter if she can make the QF.

Sabalenka storming to an early lead over Stephens in R1. Stephens lost 2x to Ann Li in the AO warm-up events so I'm not expecting any kind of resistance from SS. Frankly I wonder if she even puts in the same intensity of training blocks as other players or whether she just relies on experience. Frankly she should be playing on the challenger/125K level tournaments at her current form. I'm hoping that her love for clay actually lifts her form for the RG swing but otherwise it's becoming painful to even follow her as an active player on tour.

Damn, Noskova v Tauson R1 is not what the draw needed! Wish these 2 both had a chance to go somewhat deep in the draw. I really hope Andreeva can provide resistance for Sabalenka if they meet.

I've got my eye on Vondrousova and her comeback - really wonder what kind of form she is in. I'd like to see Zheng v Vekic again in R4 bur if Vondrousova is in form sub out Vekic and that could be a fun match against Zheng.

Absolutely gutted Gauff, Muchova and Osaka are in the same 1/8 of the draw. I hope Osaka has recovered from the ab strain and plays Gauff, but I have Gauff as winning this tournament so I guess I'll be routing for her to take out Sabalenka in the SF.

First seed eliminated.

#29 Linda Noskova out 1R to Auckland champ Clara Tauson.

Sabalenka can breath a sigh of relief, she was due to face Noskova in the 3R. The same round where right here last year, Linda knocked out #1 Swiatek.

Interestingly both Blinkova and Saville who are playing right now on Margaret Court are Moscow born.

Sabalenka in excellent form, and that just starting this major. She made quick work of Sloane Stephens (71 minutes), which was expected, as the latter has fallen to become a mediocre player.
