Azarenka out in straights. Didn't particularly look great in that match.

Swiatek easily through over Siniakova.

Other winners: Potapova and Dolehide.

Bencic a game away from knocking out Ostapenko.

Channel 9 coverage just tried to act like it was a mammoth upset as Bencic is ranked #421 and Ostapenko is #17.

But Bencic former #4, an Olympic Gold Medalist and just returning from having a kid. Also had a great week in Adelaide while Ostapenko has lost 8 of her last 10 matches.

This Fett/Dart match has been insane with momentum swings.

Dart led 3-1 final set, then loses 3 games for Fett to go up the break, they then exchanged 5 consecutive breaks which meant Fett served for the match twice but got broken both times. She even had 2 match points.

Now it's in a tiebreaker.

Dart led 6-0. Now it's 8-5!

Harriet is cramping like crazy. It's been 3 hours. She played qualies and got into this match only cause Vondrousova withdrew.

Jana Fett in yet another mammoth Australian Open choke.

She served for the match twice in the 3rd set and had 2 match points.

She loses in the tiebreaker to Harriet Dart who can barely walk to shake hands, she's cramping that bad.

Nobody can forget Jana's giant choke against Wozniacki in 2018 where she led 5-1 40-15 final set but choked the match. Wozniacki went on to win the title.

Insane win for Aussie Destanee Aiava over Minnen.

Minnen was up 7-5 5-2 but loses the match, also had 2 match points in the 3rd set.

Crowd was insane.

I remember Aiava getting a WC a few years back, so it's great to see her make it through qualies and fight through to the 2nd round. Unrelated to form, but also cool how she's been rocking retro thrift attire for the tournament.

There's a good chance Osaka goes out here. We know Garcia has a high ceiling but she's lacked results for a while. These top players who experience these kind of lulls such as Garcia, Kenin and so on are extremely dangerous when playing a top/high profile player in the early stages of a GS. I hope Osaka can make it through - not sure if she's had a medical time out or if the ab issue is playing up? If she wants to be competing with the top 10 players and fighting for the latter stages of majors the results need to start being produced otherwise you have to wonder if she will ever be the 2018-2021 Osaka again.

Garcia about to break back. Naomi is looking trim and fit, but her shots don't seem to have that same power that they used to. Hope she pulls through as well. I do like Caroline, but I want more Naomi in my slams!

Osaka holds for 4-2, she might just hang on.

Let's not forget she did just retire in the Auckland final so she is battling an injury. I don't have big expectations for this slam considering what happened in New Zealand but this year should be a good one for Osaka I think.

This has been a pretty good match on Laver. Another of those NEVER SHOULD HAVE BEEN A FIRST ROUNDER, but man, that Osaka "SORRY!" ball toss. How the hell is that still allowed on anything but a windy day outdoors?

Osaka beats Garcia 6-3 3-6 6-3, nice embrace at the net. Hope she goes a few more rounds. Although... As per AD above Muchova is a tough draw.

Osaka v Muchova is even more insane. And for the second straight slam! Those two met at the USO with Karolina winning in straights.

Meanwhile we have 2R matches like Cristian v Bronzetti. No disrespect to those 2 ladies but Osaka and Muchova belong in the 2nd week of a slam, not in the 2nd round.

I would love to see the following win either through personal interest or entertainment value:

Fernandez
Muchova
Svitolina
Raducanu
Kostyuk
Osaka

Thank you for coming to my Ted talk.
I like Kostyuk and will add my headcase Rybakina to the list.

Garcia did it more I think maybe it was windy lol
She did say in her interview afterwards that it was windy, and yes, Garcia did it too, but I'm talking about full Arthur Ashe before the roof windy. And Naomi (and Iga) do this all the time. It's infuriating. Maybe Caro does too, I don't see her enough these days to know.

Cocciaretto looks like a strange fusion of Marion Bartoli with Martina Trevisan.
Cocciaretto is really cute... and she gets really, really sweaty during her matches!

At least I got to watch my girl play for an hour and 20 minutes
That’s something I guess
Honestly, it's better than nothing, which is exactly what Camilia Gorgi fans are getting right now (and possibly for the rest of eternity).

Funny, you made me look up the latest on the retirement saga. I found a semi-recent article that had this choice quote:
My mom always tells me as long as you can show your body take advantage because afterwards you can’t do it!
Fair enough, I guess!

Azarenka booted out of the 2025 AO in the 1st round. Just think, this event used to be hers in 2012-13 (no matter how short a time that had been), and now, she's just there, no longer any sort of a threat to return to her AO glory.

Her serve was way off in the first set and she missed so many easy shots in the second set that could have sent it to a third.

Definitely fair enough. Confident women are amazing, and it's ridiculous that some people shame them for showing off what they are proud of.

And I think people get the wrong impression of her based on social media and her tennis appearances. I've met her in real life, and she was shockingly down to earth and friendly. She's really just a decent, regular girl with a crazy natural talent, which has thrown her into a lot of tricky and unfamiliar situations, starting from a young age.
