Iva Jovic's the show today. 17-yo, the American WC, World #2 in Jrs.
Groomed for greatness for a long time now. Hasn't grown much in height, but in power.
NCH #171.
2nd R: prob. Rybakina
Watch the great game of the younger girl. DTLs, special BH, movement. Spunk.

What a horrible collapse by Stearns. She could barely win a point over the last 4 games. And she was missing badly, not narrowly. Embarrassing.

Navarro did the "I'm a top tier player" (or at least a different tier than she was previously) thing by being fairly mediocre for much of the match and then totally stepping it up right when she needed to. Flip side, Stearns collapsed.

1 & 4 for Dayana over Sherif.
I'm so glad Dayana shot the Sherif!
I tuned in to watch the last few points and that was more than enough
for my poor ear drums. I pity those in the stands who had to put up with
Sherif's torture. :(
One of, if not the worst noise-makers on tour.

Viva "Sans Sherif" [sic] - yea, not the font.

Wow. Emma "baby Pegula" Navarro narrow edges out Stearns ... not sure if either player would have or will have enough left for another round. 3 hours and 20 mins wow! One American player beats down another; first round nightmare. Stearns was in great form coming into this match and boy at this level isn't it all in the head; Cam said Stearns was chugging pickle juice at some point in the third set. Match of the Year thus far.

1st goes to Rybakina 6-1. Wow, at 5-1 she was down 0-40, then served 4 aces in a row to get to set point, then finished at 6-1. Most likely going to be a breeze again for 2nd set.
