So you want him to play through injury and risk his season? Idiotic take
Nope. Idiotic is failing for more than a year. Can't fail for SO long. Now this clay season was his last chance to rise up the rankings. Completely gone. Beaten by Musetti and now getting injured.

That's why you can't trust Sinner  even in his PEAK year and full of confidence he lost ALL the big points vs. Alcaraz !!
Alcaraz figured out the winning tactic in this match-up last year = don't try to overpower Sinner, just give him as much variety as possible (y)
Even Shelton exposed Sinner tactically in the 1st Set at this year's AO but of course Shelton lost the plot mentally and made bizarre errors late in the 1st Set...
Whereas Alcaraz ALWAYS brings it mentally vs. Sinner (y) while Sinner panics on big points when Alcaraz brings the variety (y)
Here's what he can do against those who use variations;

He was already wincing in Monte Carlo against Musetti. The injury could have been there for a while, but who knows.

Interesting comment. I recall last year at RG Raz was a set and a break down, getting butchered by Sinner.

Then he made the most lazy-looking exhibition type net approach, somehow won the point, and the match turned from there. Sinner doesn't like his baseline rythm broken.

De Minaur now against the quartet Alcaraz(0-4)/Zverev(2-8)/Tsitsipas(1-11)/Sinner(0-10) has a total record of 3-33.

Much admiration for his nature of someone who always gives 110% on the court, but there are players who represent too great an obstacle for his so light tennis.

As for Alcaraz, semi-final reached that apparently should seem obvious for someone like him, but after you have just won a very expensive 1000 tournament like his triumph in Monte Carlo, nothing should be taken for granted.
Now let's see if he will get his pigeon Tsitsipas for yet another chapter of theirs here in Barcelona, or Fils for a rematch of the beautiful challenge in Monte Carlo last week.

that was Nadal's gift, certainly this time of year

win, celebrate that night, and then move on to the next tournament with full focus...maybe Alcaraz is going to pull that off this entire clay court season...we'll see

Alcaraz is close to winning 3rd title of the year. Rune and probably Fils in the final of khachanov. Looks very easy.

He must build up the lead as of now.
Yes i just realized Alcaraz can gain a lot of points because he didn't play any Euro clay events until Madrid last year and lost that anyway !!
But even if Alcaraz gets close to Sinner before RG, i doubt there's a chance to overtake Sinner until the North American Summer 8-B

Raz should stop dreaming about the ranking until he can get better at holding the serve.

Sinner will likely end back to back year at number 1. Even Nadal could never do this.

Yeah i don't think rankings matter in this era, because the SLAM RACE got so much attention !!
The SLAM RACE is all that matters between Sinner and Alcaraz, and its clear that Alcaraz only cares about Slams anyway (y)

Nadal was never a chance of being #1 back2back because he was the most injury-prone legend of all-time...
Plus he wasted energy on non-slams like Sinner does (except Sinner isn't good enough to win Slams, outside of hardcourts).

Nadal won the Double Career Slam, Alcaraz has already won 3 of the 4 Slams (including TWO Wimbledons!), while Sinner has achieved nothing outside of hardcourts (n)
Oh and Alcaraz's serve was broken TWENTY times at Wimbledon last year, and he still won it and only faced ONE 5-setter, so Alcaraz doesn't need a serve

Wrong and you seem to be the alcawrath guy. So please go on ignore.

What did he do?

Inappropriate celebration?
Nothing like that. When tsitsipas went off court with the doctors, he started making funny comments and laughing out loud about it, first with the umpire, then with his dad. It seemed like he didn’t believe that the injury was real, and was trying to make it as a joke.

Holger looking a bit like 2023 (first half) Holger again.
Yah man, good to see him play well again. Can Khachanov give a run for his money?

....One of the most professional guy. And dare I say, talented.
Well said, man. Dude keeps his head down, quietly going about his business, giving his best effort more often than not. He's gentleman from what I've observed- acknowledging an opponent's excellent play. I'm not a fan of his game, but respect his efforts too. Glad he's over his injury and having a good season. The comm said he leads the field as the current best returner, if so, excellent stuff.

Being an Alcaraz fan is both exhilarating and frustrating sometimes during the same point.
Heh, heh - kid sure knows how to give grief to those hoping for a straight forward contest. For me, fascinating to see if / when he will find that moment and do enough to outplay his opponent, take the momentum. If he then catches fire, plays free - it is simply outstanding stuff. Glad he dealt with the necessities in the 1st, and could play superbly at times in the 2nd. Dude hasn't been at his best, hasn't had to be.
Fils will be a potentially bigger challenge, and Carlitos is likely to need to find a higher level of play in their sf. Hope both sf's are corkers!

I watched him in 2019. He was so fast man. And at his game , it's far more tactical than someone highly powerful.

Fils v Alcaraz should be a good match again. I like Fils but hope that Carlos comes through again and wins the tournament on Sunday. Winning back to back titles in MC and Barcelona should give him some much-needed confidence.
I haven't seen Fils play enough to know his level of consistency  but traditionally players who hit as hard as Fils are prone to making a lot of errors :p so there might be a higher than usual chance of Alcaraz receiving an easy win against a dangerous opponent :giggle: or easier than their previous meeting !!

BROKEN BY DE MUG?

Are you ****ing kidding me??????????

Pathetic service game. And JCF just sits there gormless. Does Ferrero do anything? The kid has no respect for the game, no respect for the basics, he just reacts. Hasn’t fixed the serve one iota. Errors one to the sky to end it. Absolutely unforgivable and unacceptable to be broken by a mug of De Mug’s caliber. Horrific.
Lmao

Really disappointed in that Tsitsipas match. I was looking forward to watching that one. Fils is an entertaining player. He tries to rip every forehand which is fun to watch.

Di Minaur is the new Ferrer. He’s incredibly consistent, seldom gets beat by lower ranked players, he’s got great retrieving abilities but he’s absolutely useless against the elite guys.

The Fils Alcaraz match will be a heavyweight clash with some big fire power. No pushers allowed.

I'm hoping for an Alcaraz-Rune final here. I like Fils but would prefer to see Carlos gather some more momentum for the remainder of the clay season. OTOH, losing here might not be a disaster - would give him a bit more time ahead of Madrid.

The British commentators at Wimbledon a couple of years ago were literally spitting into their mics every time they over-pronounced his name in a terrible attempt to sound Spanish. It was unbearable
It is a (soft) "th" sound though in Spanish, at least if you're from central Spain, isn't it? Do we know how he pronounces his name?

Wikipedia lists his name with the "th" sound.

Honestly based on the bits and pieces I head of Rune I had the feeling he must be ranked 25 or so. Early losses, sickness, retirements. Turns out he's still as a respectable number 13, and he's playing some convincing tennis today. Is there hope?

no, the hope is gone, i don't think he will be even murray of sineraz era, but he can be a zverev

Wow, Rune today and yesterday is very close to his best level. Followed him a lot and do not think I have ever seen him time the ball so well. Crazy level, will be a threat at French Open if he keeps up. Let's see tomorrow against Alcaraz or Fils if he can sustain it.

Just who was that guy? The tempo, the patience, the mixups, the dynamics, the tactics.

Who was that guy...

That was claycourt tennis.
Right, even when Rune has won before(except Paris Masters), some of the times it was still being a bit too passive, not playing deep enough and waiting for opponent to make errors.
Against Ruud and Khachanov he was dominating the rallies. Depth on most balls and had just that extra power on his shots. Drop balls today were also spot on.
