There are some seriously big names in the Qualifying starting tomorrow as well. do you guys know how qualifying can be watched ? is there any Streaming or TV coverage ?

Here's a better link for the WTA Order of Play.
You don't have to wade through the men's matches.
And I dare say this one is even better, more condensed.

Shibahara, the ex "doubles specialist" (career high #4) has been trying to build up her singles ranking. At #125 now seeded #31. Meanwhile, the unorthodox player Aoi Ito is about to play soon against a Croatian teenager Marcinko.

Well, the novelty and shock factor of Aoi Ito that works well in the ITF and WTA Challenger level is not working well at higher level. Many seems to be able to counter or quickly figure out how to play against her unorthodox style. She's actually seeded #4 here in qualies. I observe that stamina seems to be a factor from some of her matches.

Thanks.
This proves it once and for all.
Not just for Sab but for all grunters/screamers.

These girls were not pussying the ball. They were giving it a really good smack.

Did you notice how quiet Sab was?
Where were her notorious grunts/screams?

There is a small group here who try to defend grunters/screamers saying
the sounds are just a natural by-product of the physical exertion put into making
the shot.

As we can see/hear in this video, that's total bull.

I see Iga losing early
I'm leaning towards agreeing. She's having a rough year. I honestly feel like she hasn't fully gotten over losing to keys in the AO SF. She was playing lights out that whole tournament then after that loss she slowly started falling apart. I don't think the death of her grandfather right before Madrid helped her any either. At one point against Gauff in that tournament she had a mini breakdown and was crying into her towel.

Depending on her draw I could see her going out R16 or QF. She's not playing anywhere near her previous years levels right now.

There's a lot of seeds in that 9-18 range that are either struggling with form, injuries, or lack of match play right now.

Badosa, Muchova, Navarro, Krejcikova, Anisimova, Vekic, Kasatkina and possibly Rybakina are all vulnerable. They could all be gone early depending on who they get in the draw.

They could pull out before they even play. Badosa has pulled out of tournaments at least twice this year after the draw was released because of her issues.

Taylor Townsend has to qualify ?? why ?

I think at the cut-off date for direct entry her ranking was #106. There are 104 direct entries, but some spots occupied by SR (special ranking) for players coming out of injuries. Robin Montgomery at #100 is the last player accepted for direct entry to main draw. Looks like she has one more game away from making it to the main draw (interrupted match).

  • Mirra Andreeva +500
  • Coco Gauff +650
  • Qinwen Zheng +2000
  • Elina Svitolina +2200
  • Elena Rybakina +2200
  • Jelena Ostapenko +2500
  • Karolina Muchova +2500
  • Paula Badosa +2500
  • Madison Keys +3300
  • Jasmine Paolini +3300
  • Daria Kasatkina +4000
  • Bianca Vanessa Andreescu +4000
  • Diana Shnaider +5000

  • Naomi Osaka +5000
  • Jessica Pegula +5000
  • Amanda Anisimova +5000
  • Ons Jabeur +5000
  • Danielle Collins +5000
That +4000 on BVA ain't looking real good now.

Swiatek with the insane draw I predicted.

2R gets Raducanu
3R gets Kostyuk
4R gets either Ostapenko or Rybakina or Bencic. Like are you kidding?
QF gets a rematch of last years final against Paolini or perhaps Svitolina or Noskova.
SF against Sabalenka or maybe Zheng.
And then the entire bottom half.

If she pulls this off she is the greatest clay player since the start of the century. Sorry Henin.

Predicted QF’s by seeds:
(1) Sabalenka v (8) Zheng
(4) Paolini v (5) Swiatek

(6) Andreeva v (3) Pegula
(7) Keys v (2) Gauff

Completely lopsided lmao but that’s life.

Some 1R matches I’m gonna have my eye on:
(8) Zheng v Pavlyuchenkova. Pavs the runner up here 4 years ago while Zheng won Olympic Gold on these grounds less than a year ago.
(12) Rybakina v Bencic. Don’t need to go into detail on this one.
(21) Ostapenko v Polina Kudermetova. Jelena is woeful at RG outside the year she won it usually losing 1R or 2R and Polina has had a good year.
(10) Badosa v Osaka. Insane match.
(25) Frech v Jabeur.

Honestly the draw gods couldn’t have been any kinder to Gauff as we are used to seeing at slams.

1R: Gadecki
2R: Constant WC Pacquet or a qualifier
3R: (30) Kalinskaya
4R: (20) Alexandrova or (15) Krejickova (who’s played 1 match this entire year)
QF: (7) Keys or (9) Navarro (lol) or (23) Haddad Maia (lol) or (31) Kenin. Watch it be someone unseeded like Boulter or Azarenka.
SF: (6) Andreeva or (3) Pegula or (14) Muchova or (10) Badosa. Karolina and Paola are just constantly injured at this point, JPeg has lost 4 of her last 7 matches. Hoping Andreeva can step up.

Swiatek got handed a brutal draw

1r- Sramkova (that should be easy)
2r- Raducanu (never know what you are gonna get with her)
3r - Kostyuk (dangerous lower seed)
4r - either Rybakina (who when playing well can challenge anyone) or Ostapenko (who she is 0-6 against). Swiatek should pray someone takes out Ostapenko early. Bencic is also one I would watch here.
QF - Paolini (recent Rome Champion) or Svitolina (who has been dangerous all spring)
SF - Sabalenka or Zheng (who stunned her at the Olympics and recently just beat Sabalenka in Rome)

If Swiatek can get it together and defend through this draw I'll be surprised. Guess she might be thankful Collins is Sabalenka's problem LOL.

If you're a fan of Gauff or Andreeva, you're absolutely delighted with that. Hard to bet against that being the semi final in the bottom half.

The top half is brutal. Tough roads ahead for just about everybody up there.

Cheater getting the karma she should get. I think her first test will be Ostapenko if Ostapenko can win couple matches.

I don't see Swiatek having problems till 4th round. IF she gets Rybakina, she will have no problems till QF.

Thanks.

To be fair I did hear her grunt once. I think she is at 80%.

I thought Gauff would be able to handle Paolini, but for someone so short Paolini has surprising power. I don't know why this can't happen in men's tennis.

Taylor Townsend has to qualify ?? why ?
Can someone explain to me how Alicia Parks is ranked higher than Taylor Townsend? Or just explain how Parks is ranked like #51 in the world or something. She had done exactly nothing for over a year now.

Yeah she needs to hang it up. If she cannot even get through qualifiers time to walk away.
Huh? She's just starting yet another comeback. Her potential is WAY higher than 90% of the players on tour.

Honestly the draw gods couldn’t have been any kinder to Gauff as we are used to seeing at slams.
I mean, at what point do we stop believing in coincidences?

Her draw is RIDICULOUS. It's a free ride to the finals, even easier than it was the previous time she made it that far. What an absolute joke. The other half has every good clay courter right now.

You don't know about Diego Schwartzman? Guy was once ranked number 8 in the world. And Baez had some good results last year too.

Parks won a tourment in WTA tour, i think it was 500 level event too

Bencic withdrew and Rybakina got a qualifier instead.

Qinwen is the hardest draw imo. Stearns R3 and Shnaider R4 looming.
Iga have Marta R3, but I don't think Ostapenko will get to R4 and Rybakina is not looking good although she's in Strasbourg final now.

Yup, another free ride to the semifinals at least.
It's actually amazing how she doesn't win more considering her Slams usually only begin at the semifinal stage.
